I don't look at the team like most people. I don't get thrilled by every win or die with every loss. I'm more focused on the process - how well did they play. For the season, Carolina's defense has been the biggest weakness, and in the first half tonight, they played well. In the second half, they didn't. To maximize the season, they have to improve defensively.
At this point in the season I’d recommend being happy with a rare easy victory.

Carolina was outscored by 4 in the second half. They gave up 47 points. That's not winning basketball. They aren't good enough to coast.
No, this team is no where near good enough to "coast"... But come on Bill... have you never been on a team (or coached a team) who was way, way ahead at half-time only to let the foot off the gas just a tad... just a bit in the second half? And the losing team makes an adjustment or two and gets a fire lit under them from their coach, and they come out in the 2nd half guns blazing to try to flip the script? State is not very good this year either, but they too have D1 players on their team. This wasn't some mid-major.

I can recall several times as a coach in H.S. (and in Jr. High.) at halftime when we were up big, imploring, begging the players to "pretend" that the score is just 0-0 and that we need to come out with the same intensity and "win" the 2nd half... almost never happened. The only times it did happen was when we were playing a completely over-matched, young, lower level team (think 4A playing a 3A pre-season game) when even our 2nd team could still run the score up on the poor opponent.

I still think Cadeau can be a high level PG, but to be honest I was hoping he would have taken a bigger step forward this season.
Me too. Granted, he's still young and technically should have still been in H.S. last season... but the fact is, he's played almost 2 full seasons of D1 basketball and is still making freshmen mistakes. And he's not necessarily making those mistakes against a top level conference full of Quad 1 teams. Way too many unforced errors. It's like he's a victim of his own making.

I don't think he was prepared for just how physical it is at this level and is a little intimidated.

I was pleasantly surprised by the blowout last night. I wonder if State fans are happy Keatts got that extension for the Final Four run.
I hated seeing them win the ACC Tourney and make the Final Four, but in hindsight it may end up being one of the bigger ncstatelols in recent years. Had State lost at any point in the ACC Tourney then Keatts would have been fired and they could have moved on to a (possibly) better coach. But now they're stuck with Keatts for likely several more years, especially after they gave him a contract extension. Oh well, sucks to be you Wolpfact!

I thought a Final Four run was a good reason to keep a coach.

cadeau is now a sophomore and last season was a re-classed freshman but he's not young at all for his grade or stage. he's 20 years old.

so the re-class was actually just him going back to his original class.

he's less than a month younger (DOB 9/4/2004) than junior seth trimble (8/9/2004).

i really like EC's game but aside from improved shooting, i agree with @Peppers49 that he just hasn't improved in other areas this season as much as we hoped/expected.

State gets new coaches every few years but only gets final fours every generation or two. So, State fans should gladly take that trade.

I think most very much enjoyed the run to the ACC title & the Final 4.

I don’t think most are enthused to have him continue as their coach.

But my hunch is that most of them, given the benefit of hindsight, would make that trade again.

EC definitely does some brilliant things with the basketball, but you can't pair four brilliant plays with four terrible turnovers a game and be productive. This is made worse by the fact he is a below average defensive player. If he could clean up the loose plays then he's a great asset, but I'm beginning to think that his brilliance comes with the bad and there's no way to separate the two.

I was thinking last night that it was a truly pyrrhic victory for them in the Tournament last year.

He averages 3.3 TOs a game against 6 assists. He should probably be at 2.5 or so. But even at 6.0 vs 3.3, he is 16th in the ACC in assist to TO ratio (RJ is 6th at 2.4). So Elliot does have a TO problem, but he is not at 4 a game and we shouldn't overstate it.

(FYI -- he was 4.1 against 1.8 last year, so he committed significantly fewer TOs when he had a big that could catch passes with regularity).

I’d have rather seen UNC beat them in the ACCT.

Any coach they could get isn’t going to do anything for them.

Last night was fun! The crowd sounded great on tv. I know state college sucks at basketball this year, but it still felt good watching our Heels run them out of the gym. I hope CHD and the team can keep this momentum going. Plenty of winnable games before the finale against dook. GDTBATH!

He’s obviously a very talented passer and playmaker. It’s increasingly hard to find guys with those skills in college. He’s just so limited as a shooter and scorer, and still struggles defensively. I also think he lets his emotions get the best of him sometimes.

Pains me to say this because I like both players, but I don’t think he and RJ complement each other very well, especially when they don’t have big wings to mask their size issues like we had last season with Ingram and Ryan.
