Look-In: Quad Gazillion Game in Chapel Hill and a Statewide Weather Emergency Declared. Those are two of the most salient factors in play as this game approaches. Keep your eyes on whoever is your Greg Fischel for further developments. Should this game be postponed it will likely end up cancelled. There is no time to play it. On the positive side, state has gone 1-8 since Jalen Washington stole the final seconds away from the wolpfack at their place in Raleighwood. They have two 6-4 wings averaging in double figures scoring in Marcus Hill (#10, 12.g ppg, SR) and Jayden Taylor (#8, 11.8 ppg, SR). Dontrez Styles returns to his one-time home averaging 9.8 ppg while Ben Middlebrooks brings 7.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, and 1.5 blocks. Mineola, New Yorker, “I shoulda played lacrosse” Michael O’Connell rounds out the line-up scoring 6 ppg and racking up 3.2 assists per game. Breon Pass is a Reidsvillian spark plug and knows the score while Huntley-Hatfield (6-10) and Ishmael Diouf (6-9 Quebecois) add bulk off the pine. Though they be hapless – do not count them out as the bad blood off stirs on such evenings. Some of these young men have good Biorhythms too – so don’t let the guard down.
Frontline: On the Heels of Presidents’ Day Our Man Washington looks athletic and smart. Lubin is sagacious, while Claude is strong. James Brown is fired up and brainy.
Wings: Chathamite Powell brings thoughtful play while Bronxite Jackson is positively charged. Charlottean Withers adds to that confidence with a topped out E-Arc.
Guards: Smart Cadeau is a good one and R.J. Davis is good to go with a 70 X-Factor (Will to Win). Seth Trimble tops the team – he’s fast and clever.
Overall: Should be a battle. State is capable of a solid defensive effort and the book on stopping Carolina so far seems to be well-read. Bodies thrown against the Blue should be expected. The first game wasn’t particularly rough (20 total fouls) so expect this one to be. State is currently locked out of the ACC Tournament (in the new scheme of things) so are fighting against sheer embarrassment. Carolina, of course, is also in a tournament fight, sitting on the bubble which a loss to a bottom-feeder like state would burst. R.J. steps up, Washington solidifies the hate emanating from the east, Powell and Withers show that they are Native Tar Heels, Cadeau plays smart ball, Lubin joins him with wileyness in the paint, and Trimble stars. Expect Fire and Firepower from Jackson as well. Vegas is saying UNC by 9.5, Ritmos say UNC by 7.5.
