On Friday morning, student activist and wheelchair user Laura Saavedra was served by UNC police with a search warrant for her phone at her dorm in Rams Village 1. The search warrant was served in relation to the vandalism done at the "Walkout for the West Bank' on September 19.

"The cops got very, very physical with me," Saavedra said. "All three of them put their hands on me, pulling my arms and my hands trying to get my phone, and ultimately ended up pushing me out of my wheelchair."

She also said the officers knocked on her door when she was in the shower, and refused to show her the search warrant until she went into the hallway. She said that the three officers told her they had a search warrant for her phone, and as she tried to turn her phone off, they pushed her over, trapping her under her chair.

"To top it off, after being tackled, I was told that I was going to be cited with resist, obstruct, or delay," Saavedra said.

Along with a copy of the warrant, she was given a citation for a 14-223, which means resisting an officer. At minimum, a 14-223 is treated as a Class 2 misdemeanor.

The warrant states that Saavedra was observed guiding and directing demonstrators to different buildings where graffiti occurred. Photos are attached of Saavedra, wearing a mask and with her hair covered, holding her phone outside of the UNC NROTC Naval Armory.

Well, that appears to be ONE version of the story. I am guessing campus police don't wear body cams. That's a shame. Because I am sure a vandalizing entitled anarchist was completely compliant with law enforcement.

Yeppers those wheelchair bound anarchist are really hard to catch. They only had 3 officers and probably needed SWAT to help them......

Well now I doubt that. But if she were spitting at them, put her phone in her back pocket as she sat on it slapped at them after presented a search warrant, guess what -- they are going to put their hands on her, force her phone from her, and charge her sorry ass.

Neither of us know the true story. Some will see wheelchair woman, evil cops, her story must be 100% accurate.

Others will see an anarchist ring leader causing vandalism at a military building, and believe she is probably full of shit.

Time will tell.

There is no circumstance outside of a gun in which they should have pulled her out of her wheelchair -- especially not without knowing why she's in it. That can be life-threatening.

Spitting? You pull a woman out of a wheelchair for that?

BGTD! Top 50 combo guard Derek Dixon commits to UNC... a 6-3 guard known for his shooting.
Well that is much better news than the unnecessary flogging and abuse of a wheelchair bound activist.

Super, I was not defending any of her "allegations" if they actually occurred. Rather, I am calling bullshit on it and probably a fabrication.

But we do not know that as fact any moreso than her allegations.

The entire article is based on "Student activist said.......,"

Too bad that the campus cops don't wear cameras. That would be nice and quick to ascertain the truth. Weird they don't with the new the "troop leader" Chancellor? Somehow they were able to video the frat brothers "saving" the flag?

I appreciate that, but you were the one who brought spitting into the conversation. It seemed as though you were saying that they would have been justified had she spit on them. And I think that's just crazy, and that we've somehow as a country become so inured to police misconduct that we think it's actually OK to maul a disabled woman if she spit on someone.

No, I was just sharing what my gut tells me probably happened. Which is just as factual as her account at this point, meaning not at all.

The DTH was completely irresponsible here. even for do gooder libbie "reporting."

The article itself was fine. It attributes the allegations correctly as "she said." But the title is completely irresponsible. No, I take that back, the title also says this lunatic "says" officers pushed her out of wheelchair. It was Altmin that was irresponsible with his bogus thread title.

Altmin could be a valuable resource at Fox Infotainment.

I'm gonna probably not put a ton of credence into the account of someone who willfully directs vandalism. Yes, that probably makes me an asshole but those kind of actions tend to forfeit "benefit of the doubt" status for me.

Obviously if her telling is accurate, the behavior is egregious, but I don't trust her.
