If you simply didn't enjoy the show, no one should say anything. That's simply personal likes and dislikes.

The people I have an issue with are those that didn't even give the show a chance because they are sheep and their cult leader told them it was bad because a brown man sang in Spanish, oh the horror. 😁

Where do you fall?

If I recall correctly weren’t you involved in some pretty knowledgeable discussions about music origins and death metal on the old boards?

I didn't even know that the choice to have Bad Bunny perform at the halftime show was controversial until the day after. I just listened to him at halftime, and thought it was awful. Flat vocals, too processed, too digital, all that. Same complaint I have with so much music now. There were some strings and brass, but they were background. I wish Ricky Martin had been given the show. He's a talented singer.

What the president said doesn't matter to me.

And yeah, I did enjoy talking to Super about music on the old boards. He's a true connoisseur of the good stuff. :)

One of the most head spinning things about this era is how MAGA transparently offers up new exemplars of their insanity every single day, but this one is a doozy. “We don’t understand what Bad Bunny said on live TV, but we know he has cursed sometime in the past, so we’re going to pursue criminal charges against him.”

Absolutely incredible there’s still a single person willing to vote for Republicans after all this.

Sorry I still don't get it and I don't know any Hispanic that watches the NFL, but I'm isolated in Chatham Co. I would think the Hispanic population that does watch the NFL is very small overall. It was an entertaining performance, but I wouldn't consider it music. It's just something else to divide our country even more and by the looks of it this morning that's exactly what it is doing.
Hi. Here I am. NFL fan since 1979.
Glad you found one. :)

My musical taste cover a variety of genres, including Latin music. I'm not a big Bad Bunny fan, though I did enjoy his last album (thought it was much better than his previous stuff). I believe I have 3 o or 4 songs on my rather large playlist (think it's on the Party Latino playlist). My kids (as Gen Z Latinos) have mixed views; one doesn't particularly care for him, the other one has lots of BB on his playlist. My wife does not listen to BB at all.

Given that disclaimer, I found the halftime show to be interesting. The theatrics were off the charts; that was not easy to pull off. Lots of moving parts and performers. There were some powerful cultural cues, not just for PR but a nod to broader Latino culture. And I have to admit having a bit of an emotional reaction at the ending when he recited the country names and the flags came out flying. I was watching from Panama; people in the room (including some MAGAS) just lost their minds when he blurted out Panama.

My one concern was how it would play in Middle America. The whole thing was in Spanish...whoa. My first text was to my Carolina roommate in Hickory..."Glad I prepared you for this30 years ago with my babbling in Spanish"
He replied "Haha! I still didn't understand any of it"
"Don't worry, we don't understand half the stuff Bad Bunny says anyways"

Told my kids jokingly to carry the passports this week.

On the business side, think the NFL knocked out of the park. They have a very specific objective of growing the game internationally and Latin America is one of their main targets. The audience numbers were beyond expectations (I think the controversy fueled that).

To that last point, I don’t even like Goodell but this was awesome —

I was wondering if you would weigh in on this Super. You know I value your opinions on all things music.

You are going to hate me for this, but I actually enjoy Sabrina Carpenter's studio version of Espresso. It's catchy enough, and comes off as such quintessential cliché pop, that it actually resonates with me. She is really bad live though. I don't think she would do well on a SB halftime stage unless they auto-tuned the shit out of her. She doesn't have enough strength in her voice.
Oof.

But you know what you have to do, don't you? Carpenter/black metal mashup. Sorry, the Metal Council demands it of you.

He was a known dumb fuck when he pitched for the Braves.
Every time he pops off with some dumb bullshit like this I think about the song from back then by the late great Tim Wilson - "John Rocker, your proctologist called, they just found your head"
