I'm not saying any state HAS to do it or that the federal government force. I'm just saying it's the logical solution since the state part of things is just a legal thing. Taxes, estate, division of assets, financial responsibility for children, etc.

Really, why does the terminology of the start matter? I'm quite certain God doesn't care about state terminology.

The term marriage has a place in society and no one should have to change because you and some percentage of the church that still practices the exclusionary principals of being anti LGBTQ want to claim to have ownership.
What about those in the church that are gay or are accepting of LBGTQ people, what about their opinion. You, once again, have your head up your ass and want to allow a small faction of bigots to fuck things up for everyone. And don't respond with one of your bullshit propaganda articles trying to claim you are in the majority, you are not. So why should anyone be forced to listen to the minority on this subject? Go home and tell your side that you are not married, rather you are in a civil union.

Not really a surprise regarding the adultery thing, as the Religious Right has many things they claim are morally wrong and a sure ticket to hell and yet they do them anyway. These are people who still preach in church and Sunday School that premarital sex is wrong but I'd bet that 90% or more of both genders in fundie churches lose their virginity long before they get married. And hardly a week goes by without a story of a fundie preacher or church leader getting caught doing something sexually they shouldn't, usually involving adultery if not more. It's always do as I say, not as I do, with these people.

No atheist would advocate for letting the church control the term marriage and forcing LBGTQ people to use the lesser term civil union. Therefore I believe you are lying.
 
Considering the degree to which legal and tax doctrine are tied to the word marriage, it's absurd to put the onus on everybody else to change what they call it because some absurd bunch of bigots think the word belongs to them. The concept of marriage clearly predates Christianity, and there is absolutely nothing to suggest that the term was of Christian origination.

If religious bigots want a term for themselves, I suggest they coin the term "religious marriage" and take sole dominion over it... and leave the legal concept "marriage" alone to mean the legal union of two consenting adults.

If some church wants to only recognize "religious marriage" as being between opposite gender couples, I'm cool with that... makes it easier to identify which churches I want no part of.

Hell, you can cheat on your first spouse and the mother of your kids, then marry your mistress and have children with her, and then cheat on *that* mistress and the mother of your *other* kids with yet **another** mistress, then marry that mistress and have children with *her*, then cheat on the second mistress with a porn star (!!!) while said mistress is pregnant with your fifth child by three different women.

You can do all of that and become the God figure of Republicans, conservatives, evangelical Christians, and everyone who claimed to be all about “MAH FAYMULEE VALYOOZ!” You can even have cucked out right wing losers cheer you on as an “ALPHA MALE” and a bastion of masculinity.

(Sadly this is very common, men leaving their wives with cancer is so common that there’s been studies done about it, women almost never leave their husband with cancer)
