“… The home-improvement retailer previously said it wouldn’t raise prices as a result of tariffs, but now “there will be some modest price movement for some categories,” Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail said in an interview.

On Tuesday, the company posted higher sales in the second quarter and said consumers are continuing to tackle small home-improvement projects even as they delay larger ones.

While comparable same store sales rose 1%, transactions fell 0.9% and overall sales fell short of analysts’ expectations.

Consumers “are still deferring larger projects as a result of general uncertainty and higher borrowing costs in the form of interest rates,” McPhail said. “They’re not canceling projects, but they are deferring them. It’s hard to say what will unlock that spend.”…”

Canadian tourism on Cape Cod has dropped steeply, businesses say

Far fewer Canadians are visiting Cape Cod this summer than in the past. In at least one location, bookings from Canada are down nearly 80 percent.

Mary Dettloff, director of public relations for the Trustees of Reservations, which owns Dunes’ Edge Campground, said summer bookings from Canadians are down 77 percent since last year, and September bookings are down 66 percent.

“They’re not upset at us,” she said. “They’re upset at the political situation in the United States.”

At Coastal Acres, more Canadians are canceling than arriving. Cancellation emails cite what the guests call threats to Canada’s sovereignty or economy, manager Anna Kuzia said.

“There’s definitely more cancellations than there are arrivals from our Canadian guests,” she said. “And the emails that we get are political in nature.”

The department said 407 product categories are being added to the list of “derivative” steel and aluminum products covered by sectoral tariffs, with a 50% tariff on any steel and aluminum content of these products plus the country rate on the non-steel and non-aluminum content…”
