I have no tattoos. Does it hurt when you get inked?
I’ve got both of my arms done. Not exactly sleeves, but practically.

It’s overall not so bad, and they must out something in the ink to make you forget any pain anyway because you keep wanting to go back and get some more.

To me, the worst parts are the elbow (inside and outside), near my armpit, and the bony part at the top of the shoulder.

In case anyone is thinking of getting a tattoo, the advice I always give is research artists and make sure to choose one whose art style matches your vision.

So years ago a friend of mine in Durham had a friend working with him whose husband worked in the Parkinson's department at Duke. For folks with Parkinson's putting on eyeliner or makeup is near impossible so they began to tattoo some of the patient's eyelids. Of course styles and colors and all that change but tattoos not so much. This guy made a tattoo ink that was encapsulated so that you could use say the kidney stone busting vibration machine and it would break up the encapsulated ink and the tattoo would disappear. Hey my friend went to Richmond Virginia to the tattoo convention and tried to sell the artist on the ink. It didn't go over well they said the whole point of a tattoo is the permanence and to be able to remove it was not their a cup of tea. My friend was thinking you could barcode your children till they turned 18 and stuff like that but kay Sarah Sarah.

I’ve been getting them for 28 years (lost count at 40) and every one hurt. Some places more than others but yes they hurt. It’s a rare person that says they don’t hurt and I’ve a high tolerance for pain. Part of me feels the people that say the process does not hurt are full of it. It also depends on the artist and the equipment they use. I’ve had a couple done by a talented tattooist but GD it felt like he was tattooing my skeleton.

My most painful places were the sides of my abdomen and the areas they call the ditch, inside your elbow and knee. Chest was pretty sensitive as was the backs of my arms. Least was my lower legs and back.

I don’t have any tattoos. I was kinda shocked to learn how expensive they can be.

I only have one and it's on my upper left arm. It hurt just a tiny bit for the first maybe 10 seconds and after that I could feel it but there wasn't really pain. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected it to hurt far more.

That makes about as much sense as the people who fight against gun safety locks.

Your friend has a great idea and sounds really smart.
