The Charlie Kirk Thread

I'll also add....

If you have such an issue with "grand pronouncements", that you feel it necessary to completely avoid the topic of what I said, in favor of calling me out for the grand pronouncement, then I'd absolute to hear your thoughts on this:

Wake me up when this proves to be untrue. We will be lucky if we make it to elections in 2026 that aren't completely farcical, much less 2028.

I am not a gun person but I am considering buying something (probably a bolt action rifle) with as good of a lock as I can get and store it in the attic. If I do I will take lessons.

The purpose would not be for a random break in. Having it accessible enough for that would be too risky especially with my special needs child.

My hope/expectation would be that the rifle is never used except for training.
This is where I have some disagreements with the left on guns.

The vast majority of gun owners never do anything illegal with them. They shoot for fun, they hunt for fun, etc.

But the right is no better with their lies about protection, the data shows one is more likely to hurt themself or a family member with a gun in the house than an intruder.

That being said, I've had 3 guns for year and haven't shot them for years. Now that my dad has died, I have about 10 guns. I'm also storing my BIL's guns, so there are probably 30 in the house. But they are all in a gun safe in the basement.

I believe the way for us to move forward with real gun legislation is to better study it. To do that we need to remove the bullshit that the NRA got passed that keeps us from creating a database to study it. In my opinion, to do that we need to ensure gun owners that it will not be used against them and that the plan isn't to take everyone's toys(guns). We can't do that with the Beto O'Rourke's out there making statements to the contrary.

Gun laws need to be federal. Individual state laws end up circumventing each other in many cases.
No state should be able to not require background checks, training, mental health qualifications, waiting periods, or registration.

Many people, when notified of the death of Charlie Kirk, responded, "who?" That may very well be the default response in a couple of months.
I somewhat agree. I knew his name and his M.O. but I tend to get most of the right wing nuts mixed up since I blissfully tune them out.

But where I think it will bubble up again is in the form of some copycat nut-job kid doing something similar to “avenge” him. Unfortunately there is no end to the supply of these dangerous little incel fucks who want their own blaze of glory. There’s no turning off that faucet now, it’s a new fact of life.

Most recent events where the shooters were politically motivated have resulted in the discovery of a digital footprint… manifesto/twitter/Reddit within hours. Given that we’re a day or so into knowing who this guy is and there’s nothing directly attributable to him that belies his motivations or beliefs… I think it’s more likely he didn’t follow any sort of cohesive ideology.

Seemed to be a relatively bright guy who ended up feeling like he had no prospects in life and leaned into the pervasive culture of irony and nihilism that’s present in many corners of the internet populated by young men. Eventually came to the conclusion that, fuck it, he might as well take a pot shot at the most convenient high profile figure he found. Pretty similar to Thomas Crooks, but he actually made the shot. Both had access to guns from family which made the act even easier. No easy answer to the cause or cure of such circumstances.
There is some truth to this, but we gotta stop with the equivocations about what ideology overwhelmingly informs these disgusting online fever swamps.

Jesus said,

18 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause".

Right-wingers on X today still blaming the left — college professors, Democrats, so on and so forth.

Jesse Watters calling Democrats murderers.

Stephen Miller pointing to the reaction of some to Kirk’s tragic death and saying there is a terrorist movement on the left.

They aren’t letting go of the narrative. Trying to intensify things.

Folks here who are Trump supporters — how dangerous would you say this is?

The Donald and Junior are both pieces of shit. That fact aside, I find it incredibly amusing how both sides are absolutely convinced that the issue of violence and dangerous rhetoric is only from the other side.... When it is so obviously not the case.

This is the problem with monetized social media and all of the legacy news sources that are now competing with monetized social media. You have to pander to one side or the other, to some degree, to stay afloat. CNN probably does the best job of trying to be balanced and, not coincidentally, they are struggling the most of the three cable news stations.

For the most part, people just don't want to hear balanced. They want confirmation bias. They want to be told that their anger is well placed and justified.
Trumps are terrible, but BOTH SIDES are terrible. - Zen

Really? Let’s line up some examples apples/apples.- IC

I don’t have time to look up examples..both sides though! - Zen

“… Clemson University has faced massive backlash, and even calls to be defunded, from Republican lawmakers and the late far-right activist’s online followers after failing to dismiss one of its staff members for making comments critical of Kirk following his death on Wednesday.

… Melvin Earl Villaver Jr, an assistant professor of audio technology and global black studies in Clemson’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, is understood to have shared a variety of posts ridiculing Kirk’s assassination.

“Worried about DEI and DIED instead,” one now-deleted post reportedly read, with another adding: “Charlie Kirk recently said to a Palestinian that there’s no such thing as Palestinians. Well now look… there’s no longer such a thing called Charlie Kirk.” …”

.., Clemson has since said in a statement it “unequivocally condemns any and all expressions that endorse, glorify or celebrate political violence.” While the college did not directly address any of the posts Villaver is understood to have written, Republican State Representative Thomas Beach claims the university has not yet taken action against either him, or any other members of staff who may have made negative comments about Kirk in recent days.

… “The SC legislature appoints six members of the 13-member board of trustees at Clemson,” Beach posted on X. “I think we need to know which board members didn’t want these leftist professors fired.” …”

Yeah, it’s been absolutely hilarious the attempted lionization of this dude. It’s horrific the way that he died. He did not deserve to die the way that he died. Nobody does. But he, through his own choices, created the circumstances that made himself a target for a deranged lunatic. Of course, that does not mean that his death is his fault. It’s not. But it does mean that the folks trying to make this guy out to be some saint who was killed only because he claimed to love Jesus Christ, sound like goobers.
Impossible. I refuse to believe that Saint Charles ever said any of those things.

Fake news!
