Some strange things about how this is being handled:
* Usually the cops want to piece together a motive to bolster prosecution, but here they have the suspect alive and he has given a confession— the frantic focus on motive seems unnecessary
* The earlier NY Post story about the roommate indicated that the roommate was cooperating with authorities and that “Text messages and other communications
that the roommate traded with Robinson, 22, helped the feds nab the accused assassin.”
1) The Feds didn’t “nab” the assassin - based on widely reported details, he was confronted to his father, who talked him into telling a youth minister, who contacted the ATF, and the dad talked his son into turning himself in, which he did to local police
2) IF the roommate was cooperative and helping Feds nab the assassin, doesn’t that make the roommate a good guy in this situation?
* We’ve had several early leaks from law enforcement that were focused on blaming “transgender ideology” (whatever that even is) for the assassination that were debunked
* now we have law enforcement leaks again that seem to be presenting a narrative that the roommate is trans and possibly the killer’s lover, but also cooperating to help them nab the killer, but that also means that the purportedly transgender roommate is somehow to blame?
* so far, there has been no secondary corroboration of these new law enforcement leaks — a relative of the roommate explicitly said she considered the roommate a black sheet but had no idea if he is transgender, and there is no indication that should matter anyway given that the roommate is a cooperating witness, not the alleged killer, and none of the photos in the Post story suggest a man transitioning to female (which again doesn’t seem relevant anyway)
* I do think there may have been a lot of pundit and political and law enforcement misunderstanding of online gamer culture and trying to peg it as left or right wing political ideology when it is more of an anarchist, shitposting all sides suck disaffected youth culture
