I didn’t understand the purpose of the post but after going back I interpret it as frustration because Ram doesn’t often post personal insults. I would invite you lefties to join a republican board and see how long you continue to participate before putting them on “ignore” by leaving due to the vitriol you get. On this board you live in a cocoon of affirmative nods. Regardless of your opinion of his views, if you are honest you will recognize that is out of character.

I said it recently and I’ll say it again, I won’t believe a damn thing from this mafia admin until it’s verified by numerous independent sources - not a statistic, a jobs report, a weather report, an epidemiology study, and certainly not the proclamations from a highly politically charged murder.

There are a ton of claims out there I am not sharing because they do not appear supported by reasonably rigorous reporting. I posted the initial Fox online post about the roommate only with a critique of the reporting and the reporter, but Fox was running with it and I posed it here because it is relevant to the discussion.

I posted details from the NY Post article because it is getting traction but also to call attention to how sketchy some of the reporting is (and to me how nasty the tone of the unnamed relative of the roommate is).

I didn’t do that to support or antagonize anyone, but I also don’t see how ignoring that reporting changes anything.

I am deeply troubled by the handling of this by the FBI and whatever law enforcement has raked prior debunked stories in this case. But several details have made me dubious of the groyper speculation (particularly reports that the shooter considered Kirk to be spewing hate — a groyper would be angry that Kirk is not hateful enough).

As much as I read about the extreme far right, I haven’t read much about the toxic gamer community culture since the days of Gamergate. As a result, I’ve been on a learning curve trying to grasp what reads to me like a more anarchist stew that doesn’t fit perfectly into a far right or far left narrative. And I think the general lack of knowledge about that insular online community has created a lot of ill-informed media speculation about some of the details here.

Anyway, the story about the roommate is pretty ugly because there are a lot of strands to pull at here that don’t all make a ton of sense and meanwhile it is feeding a mob mentality against a small, vulnerable minority. I prefer the MAGA mob focus on the left generally than be gifted the target they want and government support to vilify and torment all transgender people even more than is already happening.

I find this all immensely upsetting personally but I also don’t believe in looking away or ignoring reports I don’t want to believe.

But I have to roll my eyes at this line: "Kirk wasn't a right wing provocateur; instead, he was famous for showing up on campuses with a smile and politely engaging with liberals in a friendly manner." Kirk's fame and career were built on antagonizing "angry liberals" so that he could create clips of them that triggered conservatives over how "crazy" and "extreme" liberals are. He was much more intelligent and urbane than, say, Chaya Raichik, who employs a much cruder and more vicious version of the formula, and a much more serious political operative as a result, but his entire career and schtick were built on dividing people, not bringing them together. And of course, he devoted most of his time and energy over the last 8-9 years to supporting Donald Trump's authoritarian movement, while fully endorsing the worst of Trump's falsehoods, like CO-19 conspiracy theories, the 2020 election "Big Lie" and the J6 assault on the Capitol.

So, while his death is tragic, the reality is that Kirk had a major role in creating the current superheated political culture and rhetoric that many on the right are now blaming for his death. He should not have been killed, and his death will definitely be a negative thing for the country, but the reality is that he rose to fame, fortune, and power through making us all a little angrier at each other.

Don’t know. Oklahoma has or used to have a board (on the 247 site) that leaned more right but can’t comment on its quality. Clemson (rivals) has a politics board that I’m looking at. My initial thought is that it is about 50 / 50 but really don’t know yet. Seem some impressive insults though so I think there is some level of intelligence there. More so than the Oklahoma board.

Name me one right wing journalist you don’t have a negative opinion of. Love me some MK, DP, and BO. My hope is that MK doesn’t go the way of SH, JW, and LI. don’t think MK had a fall from grace. She seems to be doing quite well. Hard for me to believe she is almost 56.
