IIRC (and I might not be) I think those messages were after the shooting.

I'm sure this will anger some people, but if you're still regularly using Twitter (X) and you're a liberal then you're basically aiding and abetting your own destruction. Since Elon bought it it's become a prime platform for bigotry, racism, misogyny and hatred of liberals generally.

The double standard going on here is vast and getting larger by the day. Republicans can mock the death of Democrats, as with the death of the Democratic Minnesota legislator, with no consequences whatsoever. We're seeing all kinds of calls for violence against liberals since Kirk's death, again with no consequences. And leading the charge has been Dear Leader and Elon Musk. But if Democrats do the same (or even less, such as simply posting Kirk's actual statements and quotes) then it's the worst and most vile crime ever committed and that person's life and career must be utterly destroyed. It's gone beyond the ridiculous and is becoming downright dangerous.

Completely disagree. The right has been more vocal (trump in particular) since the shooting. But sine trump 1.0 the left’s rhetoric has been just as destructive. Im not going to search and post the comments from Biden, Harris, pelosi, waltz, waters, a OC, Crockett, dnc chairpersons, etc. because 1) you don’t care, and 2) if you do you can find them. keeping score isn’t my point, which is that it is ALL a threat. To try and score it as to which side is worse is in some manner accepting of some of it. You either are against it all or you accept it. There is no in between.
Misusing labels such as racist, fascist, etc is also a form of violent rhetoric because it fuels violence and creates division. Calling people nazis and hitler is done for shock value and to instill hatred. So no, it isn’t a right thing. It’s an American political environment thing. If you don’t want to perpetuate it then quit using those terms and find more intelligent ways to communicate your thoughts. This is a topic that we should all be able to agree on and one that isn’t subject to “team” pettiness.

I thought it was very strange that the governor was the primary speaker at all of those press conferences. Typically a governor (or mayor, or President, or whatever senior executive is present) will offer their concerns and condolences and turn the podium over to the police chief (or fire chief, or FBI AIC, or FEMA official, etc) to discuss details and progress of an investigation.

I felt the governor being the primary spokesperson from the first press conference indicated an immediate political weaponization of this event from the get-go. That feeling was reinforced by the governor’s “analysis” of selected bits of alleged evidence. I was shocked when some people were saying how Utah’s governor acquitted himself well during this “crisis” simply because he wasn’t as crass as Donald Trump, while being every bit as partisan as Trump.

I will also add that im fully aware that the right is trying desperately to tie the shooter to anything at all to the left so it can “justify” its rhetoric and somehow paint the left as evil. I condemn it all because it’s done out of a desire to play politics and not identify a root cause for why he did what he did. I don’t give two fucks if he is trans, gay, radicalized right wing or radicalized left wing. I only care about what led him to the point it did and whether anything can be done to prevent the next one from happening. The “war” should be on “radicalization” and its causes, not on political parties.

The only speech from a Dem leader that could even plausibly be compared to the CONSTANT stream of rhetoric from Trump and his administration is Biden’s Soul of the Nation speech in Philadelphia in 2022. He did use very strong language in that speech. He also, though, said (1) violence is never an appropriate response to political disagreement, and (2) there are many reasonable Republicans outside of MAGA that care deeply about the future of the country.

The problem is that Trump and MAGA took that speech and said, “Oh buddy, you haven’t seen ANYTHING yet!”

A friend of mine sent a quick video clip of a group of people (looked like all white men) walking along a road in Charlotte yesterday, all wearing masks and hats. I couldn’t tell what was going on but my other friends on the text thread said it looked like some alt-right group. Now that I see this, that seems to be what it was. Looks like a modern-day Klan rally.
