Most prominent MAGA personalities, whether they are on "news" networks or comedians or podcasters or politicians or whatever, exhibit to great effect the traits of what is best termed "Schroedinger's douchebag" - someone who says provocative and inflammatory things, and then tells you after the fact whether those things were joking or serious based on the reaction (or based on which audience they're talking to - often "Schroedinger's douchebag" will tell MAGA supporters a comment is 100% true and absolutely serious but when pressed by mainstream news reporters insist that the exact same remark is obviously a joke/hyperbole/metaphorical).Comedian = serious.
"News" host = joking.
This is what I was talking about in a different post. At some point, it has to become exhausting stretching all semblance of logic and morality to defend one's team. That's what drove me away from the GOP a decade ago.
I'm never again voting for Jimmy Kimmel!Kilmeade's comment was bizarre - so out there that it's almost like he was trying to make a really bad joke (which he often does). Plus, it was an offhand remark unlike JK's comments which were a part of his monologue.
We're so far past the point of this becoming embarrassing. More and more Pubs, including Calla, seem to be recognizing it. Incredible to me that the others can't see it.
Roseanne Barr was fired from her own show for one tweet. Kimmel is not some sad victim. He was no longer a viable option for his employers.
Hell, the blacks get a month AND a national holiday in the middle of June!!! Ram, what are your thoughts on that?Charlie only gets a day when the gays get a full month???
It is not productive or helpful for liberals/leftists to try to paint every single person who has voted for or bent the knee to or refused to oppose Trump as dyed-in-the-wool MAGA warriors.
See, I have a position that will align with probably 95% of the regular posters here and you try and ruin it by bringing up something I find equally, if not more, ridiculous!Charlie only gets a day when the gays get a full month???
What's great is that in 3 years nobody will remember Kirk at all.
Well, it depends on who is in our government and what kinds of history books they’re pushing. What's great is that in 3 years nobody will remember Kirk at all.
Nobody harkens back to Rush, or remembers him fondly. So to shall it be for Kirk.
OK, fair enough. I'm sorry for the lecturing tone of my posts, which itself isn't productive either. I do think Rogan's podcast has been a negative influence on many people but also honestly think he's not really a "Republican" and it would not shock me at all for him to swing back leftward in many ways while the Trump admin completely botches ruling the country. (One big complicating factor for him will be his deep ties with MMA/UFC, which is still rife with toxic right-wing masculinity and Trump support.)Nobody called him a "MAGA warrior" Whatever the hell that means. You've suggested that visiting Mar-a-Lago is some kind of Rubicon for Trumpdom, well during an episode of his podcast, Rogan mentioned the possibility of traveling to Mar-a-Lago to interview the president.
I'm not even entirely sure what you're arguing. You've admitted that Rogan did more to get Trump elected that anyone else I listed. He attended Trump's inauguration, his reasoning is just that, his reasoning. He was there... either to curry favor or revel in the accomplishment of his vote. The reason is largely irrelevant.
You're splitting hairs and I'm tired of liberals lecturing other liberals about what is and is not productive. Rogan voted for, endorsed, and supports Trump. The end.
Ted Cruz is a complete and utter scumbag who will debase himself and fuck over his constituents for even the slightest of increases in his own power and influence, but he is also very intelligent. And what I think this indicates is that, through experience and/or internal polling numbers, Republicans know that this sort of speech policing by the government is really unpopular with the electorate. And that's why I'm not as pessimistic as some others about our country/democracy already being lost of close to lost - for all of the bad stuff that's happened in the last 10 months, for all the damage that will take years to undo, the Trump admin's power to do all this cartoonish banana republic stuff is still subject to the will of the people. And Trump and some of his most sinister apparatchiks way overestimate how popular some of the stuff they want to do is.I did not have this one on my bingo card...
Ted Cruz compares FCC Chair Carr to Mafia boss in Jimmy Kimmel warnings
I think what we're learning from all of this is how far out on the edge Ram is. When Ted Cruz is pushing back on things you're defending, you're extraordinarily far outside the mainstream.I did not have this one on my bingo card...

The show on which Rogan was attempting to rag on Biden for his comments about the Revolutionary War and airports was BAD.I'm on your side here and I think Rogan's podcast has generally been an anti-intellectual, anti-government, anti-public health cancer (mainly through Rogan's choice in who to platform and his interview style of wide-eyed, naif-ish credulity towards all sorts of nonsense people have spewed at him). But I honestly don't think this is correct. Rogan absolutely supported and endorsed Trump in 2024, but he has never been a slavish worshipper of Trump like those other bozos, and has openly criticized him at times since he was elected. He's not, like, going to Mar-a-Lago and the White House and reflexively defending Trump, like the other people listed have.
Fully agree. Again, I am no defender of Rogan. I think he's been a bad influence and has becoming fabulously wealthy doing it. I just think he's not easy to politically categorize. The show on which Rogan was attempting to rag on Biden for his comments about the Revolutionary War and airports was BAD.
Those comments were by Trump.
When someone corrected Rogan and informed him that Trump made those comments, Rogan basically shrugged his shoulders and said, “Oh.”
And changed topics.
