No, I just think it is ironic that in their effort to lionize Kirk, the Republicans in Congress choose a day that a good share of the maga base would find infuriating, even though it is Kirk's birthday.
If I were to compare the two, I would say that Floyd was killed by the government while Kirk was killed by a troubled private citizen. Floyd wasn't killed by the GOP or 'The Right' and Kirk wasn't killed by the Democrats or 'The Left'. Both are tragic circumstances. I don't particularly think either should be lionized, they weren't saints although in obviously different ways. I feel for both of their families and neither deserved what happened to them. I don't agree with Kirk's views, but I would defend his rights to share them. I think his willingness to engage with his critics/opponents face to face was commendable particularly when so many of the younger generation lack interpersonal communication skills.
I would criticize a Democratic administration if they ordered the US Flag to be flown half mast for Floyd just as I don't think it should have been lowered for Kirk given that neither had any military service or service as a public official.
Although I think there certainly a few people in the administration who were genuine friends with Kirk, I don't think that most of the administration particularly cares that much about Kirk other than how they can use his death to advance their agenda. The GOP should probably care quite a bit because without Kirk, I'm not sure whether or not the rightward shift of GenZ or GenAlpha will continue. Time will tell.
