The first album you remember buying

I can't really remember. I believe it may have been AC DC for those about to rock.

I used to record songs off of the radio on G105.

I don’t remember the first album…..

It was likely one of these:
  • Bad Company, “Straight Shooter”
  • The Doors, “The Doors” (probably this one)
  • Alice Cooper, “Billion Dollar Babies”
It wasn’t The Jackson 5, “ABC;” but that was early.

My parents had all the Beatles, James Taylor, Carole King, and Carly Simon. They had no Stones, no Creedence.

Lots of KC and the Sunshine Band, EARTH, WIND, and FIRE; some Commodores; everything by Parliament/Funkadelic; Springsteen’s “Born to Run;” at some point I bought all the Creedence and Stones.

In the ‘80’s, after politics, I went to be a climbing bum. Left the albums at my parents. At some point, they gave them to my nephew who is way into music and vinyl. I’d kinda like them back; but, he also has the turntable from that era (Dad bought a GREAT turntable after he earned tenure). And, I know he loves those albums more than I would.

What I really miss are the mixed tapes we made. Hundreds, maybe thousands of hours over 6-8 years. Wish I had those cassettes and the ability to digitize them.

I started albums old. Not sure of the year, but I was in High School. Probably was 16 or 17. I got my turn table and first four albums on the same day. I liked all of them and still do. No shame, either.

KISS - Dressed To Kill
Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare
Bee Gees - Children Of The World
Barry Manilow II

Actually, I went on to get All of KISS and Barry Manilow that was out. Barry lost me with his Live album. His voice didn't hold up. KISS lost me with Dynasty. I did own some older Bee Gees at some point. Kind of was on the disco sucks train and never got Saturday Night Fever. Not sure why I never explored more Alice Cooper.

With my $$...

My parents had a couple of Beatles albums.

lol It may have been an 8 track of Abbey Road. I won't count Christmas presents. These are the first few when I drove down to a record store...a few may remember those.

Jim Croce!

I definitely had a couple of Jim’s albums!

Definitely a bulk 10+1 cassette purchase from Columbia House, for which I’m undoubtedly on some list.

From what I recall, this would’ve been sometime in late ‘86, early 87.

I was 13-ish, only just forming my own music taste. As I recall, it went something like:

—The Police, Synchronicity
—Sting, Dream of the Blue Turtles
—Genesis, Abacab
—Phil Collins, Face Value
—U2, Unforgettable Fire
—Van Halen, 1984

I can’t recall the rest.
