They never let him down, but they got super good at hoodwinking voters while Democrats lost the thread with workers. Interesting to see that John L. Lewis CIO reference there as well as the mild “soft on fascism” implication.

Harold Cooley was the 4th District Congressman from 1934 to 1966. He did nog sign The Southern Manifesto in 1956 opposing desegregation but he voted against he Civil Rights act of 1957 abd the VRA of 1965.

Jim Gardner upset him in 1966. That 1966 election is strongly imprinted on my memory. While I do remember 1964 (LBJ v Goldwater) it was 1966 that really got things stirred up in the world around me in #DeepChatham (I was 8).
