I haven't heard anything about gay marriage specifically in a very long time. I don't remember the last politician who brought it up.
You're not gay have nothing to do with gays and are my next super ignore after HY2012. You bring nothing to the board like the contrarian troll you are? Why are you doing this other than some misplaced sense that the dissonance in your head is something other folks give a shit about. I'm thinking you are either a bot or an idiot. Leaning towards the later.

jfc.

do you think that the republicans are just passing all of this anti-lgbtq legislation accidentally and that by trying to essentially ban the lgbtq community from public life (don't say gay laws, censoring lgbtq content/materials, forced outings by schools, redefining sex in state constitutions, etc. etc. etc.) that what they really want is equality and justice for them? get your head out of your ass, dude.

I'm only talking about gay marriage, not other legislation. That one specific topic has seemingly been put to bed.

What were the numbers in 2012?

Honestly 2004 is going back before I can speak with any type of knowledge so I have no answer to your question. I was 14 years old for the 2004 election. I was eligible to vote in 2008 but even then, wasn’t nearly as engaged as I am now. So I have no clue why so many more Latinos voted Pub in 2004 compared to 2012.

You can get all of your exit poll data to your heart's content at the Roper Center.

And, there is this thing called research. I was negative years old when the Nazis were rampaging through Europe, but I have a basic understanding of fascism.

i don't care what you're talking about. you're either being willfully ignorant or dishonest if you think that other legislation isn't a barometer for the republican party position on the lgbtq community and their desire and willingness to overturn obergfell.

regardless, clarence thomas came right out and said it: https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/24/thomas-constitutional-rights-00042256

The justices “should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell."

I like politics as a hobby but I don’t like politics enough to look up exit poll data from 2004 - ha!

Not saying it’s bad for you to do so, but not something I personally seek out. I like this board because it’s efficient and can read a few threads and learn a lot in a short time without having to dedicate my own time to doing research on 20 year old elections.

Sports are my primary hobby and I know a lot more about the history of sports than I do the history of politics. In general, I only stumbled across the ZZLP because of its proximity to UNC sports boards on IC. And I liked reading here so I could see what the left was saying and make sure I wasn’t ever living in an echo chamber of people on the center-right like me, which is also where most of my friends and family sit on the political spectrum.

I am going to hate every fucking idiot who votes for the man with a passion, and I suspect a lot of people will be like me. And I don't want to hear, "OMG you are so angry just over politics" because the people who said that in Germany 1933 are among the villains in history and they were responsible for one of the greatest tragedies -- perhaps the greatest tragedy -- in human history.

More importantly, if Trump wins, it means democracy is no longer viable. Trump isn't just the worst candidate ever; he's almost the worst candidate imaginable. ALL of his ideas are idiotic. EVERYTHING he says is a lie. There's nothing redeemable about his administration at all. If people still vote for him, if they still elect him despite that, the damage will be incalcuable.

And finally, if Trump wins, massively catastrophic climate change will be unavoidable. We are already behind our minimal commitments we made at Paris. The world needs to go faster in decarbonizing, and Trump is going to go backwards. The rest of the world will follow our lead.

Wish the republicans on here would just come out and own all of their party’s shitty views.

LGBTQ rights/gay marriage stuff is a good example. Republican politicians are actively trying to pass nit picky legislation to roll back the progress that has been made on that front. Stop tap dancing around pretending like it’s not happening, and grow a fricking dick and own it.

Posters like you are among the reasons I created the prediction thread. It's not to call people out for inaccurate predictions, it's to bring to light the reality, accurate or exaggerated of the impact of US Presidents.

Assuming Trump survives all 4 years in office he will challenge to SCOTUS the two term limit, arguing some combination of it doesn’t count if the terms are non-consecutive, his first term shouldn’t count because of the Mueller probe, and/or it operates like the insurrection clause and only Congress can disqualify him from serving. There’s about a 50/50 chance SCOTUS will buy one of these terrible arguments and Trump ends up on the ballot again in 2028.
I don't know how much we'll have to worry about that. Trump is old, overweight, already cognitively challenged, and exists on a diet of shitty fast food. I don't see him staying healthy enough to finish out a second term, let alone a third one.

I view it a little differently. Abortion is the main losing issue for Republicans and the border is the main losing issue for Democrats. Whichever side loses will need to look in the mirror and try to meet the average voter where the voters are on these key issues. I suspect it will end up being Republicans who regret overturning Roe. But if Dems lose, it’ll be due to immigration IMO.
I agree with you. His decision to narrow his campaign down to the dog whistle "immigration" issue indicates that he is hoping he will enhance his appeal with bigots and amp up the fear of black and brown people among his supporters and eke out a win.

I think if Trump gets elected, he will have his executive orders, but not much of lasting impact will happen other than replacing some older Supreme Court Justices. Trump doesn't have the temperament to work with Congress. Last time he got a tax cut passed and that's pretty much it. Compare that to Biden who gets his legislation passed, with some compromises, every other week.

I doubt Trump will win, but if he does win, I think the Democrats will realize the open border of the Biden/Harris administration is what sunk them. So I think we’d see the Democrats actually take illegal immigration seriously going forward.
lol I think it’s pretty clear which party has no desire to fix anything having to do with immigration.

"Except replacing some older Supreme Court Justices"

SMDH. That's so much of what is wrong now and you seem happy to worsen the problem.
In agreement, presidential nomination of federal judges and even more so SC justices is the long lasting legacy of a presidency in our system. No two ways about it, some people just cannot think long term!
