The Michael Peterson Case

I ran across the documentary The Staircase about the Michael Peterson case for murdering his wife, Kathleen Peterson. I also see there is a docudrama also called The Staircase which is about the case and the making of the original documentary. I just started watching the original documentary. I remember it was a big deal back when it happened and there were all kinds of stuff that came out about Michael Peterson, and the theory she was attacked by an owl, and just how salacious the whole thing was. What do you think happened? Do you think he killed or, or did she just fall down the stairs? Or was she attacked by an owl and fell?

He killed her. Fit of rage.

There's also a Radiohead song called Staircase.

(Just bringing this topic together with OP's music thread.)

I followed his trial every day live on tv and I have the DVD. It is a doc well worth watching.

The evidence against him was compelling. For me to think the Radcliff woman's fall down the stairs in Germany when Peterson was the last person to be with her as a mere coincidence was not credible.

He did it

Not only did he do it, he did it by beating her to death with a blunt instrument... likely the fireplace tools given to them by her sister.

I don't think he did it. I really think it was the owl which caused hee to fall down the staircase. Sounds fantastic except for thee things.

-Barred owls are territorial and strike with the force pf a baseball bat.

-There was a guy in the neighborhood that said he had been attacked around the same time frame.

-Most importantly, they found tiny feathers in her hair of a barred owl. These things aren't like pollen. They aren't just out in the air and we all have owl feathers in her pompadours. How would they get there?

Yep, her bloodstains inside his shorts was evidence he stood over her and beat her after he pushed her down the stairs.

After the verdict jurors were interviewed by the media. The jury consensus was that their visit to the crime scene in the stairwell made it clear to them that the massive amount of her blood on the wall and ceiling was not due to her slip and fall down some steps in the staircase.

I am not hip on the lingo but would this be considered a “take”? I ask because [laughing].

He did it...cops/crime lab framed up evidence to help with their case against him.
HBO drama is a good follow on to the Netflix doc.

I lived near the Petersons and knew them well enough to attend an occasional party at their house. Michael was very hot tempered and needed money. She had a large insurance policy that paid double if she died by accident. (Otherwise Michael could have just told police he saw a black guy fleeing the house- in downtown Durham they would have accepted that explanation). I have also know the medical examiner in the case since we were lab partners on our first day at UNC. She told me the head injuries would have required multiple blows and were inconsistent with a fall. She also said you could find microscopic owl feather residue in anyone's hair if you looked long enough. The owl theory is just bullshit.

With all due respect I disagree with your opinion and there is no credible evidence supporting your opinion
@Rock - Is it possible to write a script where every gt post has a bot that automatically responds with this phrase?

I think it would save us time and make the board more efficient.

My personal knowledge of the case is no more than anyone else here, but I do know people who have a great deal of knowledge about the case. I will just say that I actually now find the owl theory plausible.

This is going to sounds like a diskish response but I dont mean it that way.

Are we talking "if it doesnt fit, you must acquit" plausible or more real world?
