The Music Thread

"When I played my first solo show in Ireland, I said something onstage to the effect that I'd recently realized that most of my songs were either about a) apparitions or b) the weather (or c] both). And immediately someone shouted out, "You've come to the right place, lad!!" I'm excited about returning to "the right place" once again. Hope to see you in Kilkenny on May 2 (unless you are an apparition or a storm). (also appearing with the Big Star Quintet there, on May 1, with special guest Norman Blake. "

If you like this kind of music (I do), this is a nice little ditty. Throw in the rest and it’s even more interesting…

I think my 13yo daughter has good musical tastes. Our tastes overlap a great deal (she likes The Cure, Kate Bush, Bowie for example) but also diverge a good bit. But in the places where we differ, i can respect her musical choices. It's not the bubblegum pop most of her peers listen to. She's turned me on to a few bands. There especially seems to be a 50s music style revival going on that I was unaware of until she started playing it. Including some Elvis style crooner whose name i can'r remember atm.

Here's She And Him that she introduced me to which is pretty styley. You all may have heard this stuff before, but it's new to me. I guess they've been around a decade plus but only recently have taken off?

Paul Simon is always a great interview. Here he speaks about his early days, 1964 in England. He’s asked about busking (fast forward to the 3.5 minute mark). This speaks to my heart as I was a busker for several years in Europe including Paris and London of which Paul speaks:

This is so cool. Somehow seems to fit the times. Took me a couple listens to really start enjoying. I love the looping. Almost meditative, but in an aggressive way.

It is amazing how such a weird band resonated with so many people and blew up so quickly. It’s catchy, groovy but also weird, and also the drummer’s nose is just the right amount of floppy to be extremely funny 😂.

My friend described them as Buckethead for theater kids and now that’s all I can think of when they come across my algorithm (which is extremely frequently). I find myself disengaging with it after 5-10 minutes, but I do hope they stick around and get truly huge.

Somehow the costumes just fit. Everything works oddly and disturbingly together. Doesn't hurt that they can actually play.
It also grooves incredibly hard even with the odd time signatures.
