we should have a death threat dart match
Darts, pool and carpentry went to hell about eight years ago when a developed a ( minor) essential tremor. That was what actually led to my retirement. Shaky hands are not an attribute useful to a trim carpenter. It doesn't bother me much in general but repetitive motions degenerate in a hurry.

Anybody else get irrationally annoyed at the lyric "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you"...because, whoever she's referring to, the song *is* about them?

Always heard it was about James Taylor. Having been negatively conditioned against him, I lost any interest in following up.

How'd you get negatively conditioned against him? I like some of his songs, knew he was addicted to heroin for a while, but other than that that's about all I know. Dude has a voice like fine silk, though.

I’ve heard it’s about three men. But I don’t know much about her love life save that did date James Taylor.

That damned song my freshman year where you were likely to hear it at any time or place. I still have a mental block about even the name. I know it sounds put on but, it's real to me.

More familiar with people like the Iguanas.

  • Oye Isabel is my jam! Love this album. I've seen the Iguanas a couple of times. Great band!
  • Love Los Lobos too!
  • Mike Cross is also way cooool!
  • And JT? Not sure how anyone doesn't like James Taylor... but whatever.
Now to my buddy Pavel Wlosok - Jazz professor at WCU. From Czechia. I've been fortunate enough to have played a couple of gigs with him. Talk about a monster player. Here he is on summer vacay back in Czechia at a jazz club. Recorded just the other night.
This is not for the faint of heart:

The 40th anniversary of Live Aid a few weeks ago slipped past me. Queen's incredible set is deservedly considered the high point but I've always loved this tune from David Bowie. Amazing energy from Bowie with an intense rhythm section and Thomas Dolby wailing on synthesizer. Turn it up!

I think this is probably my favorite of theirs. They're a little more experimental on this I think. The title cut is most excellent as well.

I think I made that very same post awhile back. For me, that song is my absolute favorite Iguanas song, but the entire CD is wonderful(y)

Saw The Head and The Heart at the new amphitheater in RVA on Friday. Pretty nice venue squeezed into downtown.

They put on a really good show in the rain.

Turns out the front man and drummer live here.

Each verse is about a different guy. Warren Beatty confirmed for verse two. Richard Branson - founder of Virgin Airlines is probably verse #3. Carly confirmed the song is not about her ex- James Taylor.

Tony Bennett was born August 3, 1926

I saw him at the grand opening of the remodeled Memorial Hall. It was a black tie affair so I bought a tuxedo which I have never worn since that night.
I got to hobnob with former guv Jim Hunt and Coach Gut before the concert. Unfortunately, the NC symphony played for well over an hour and Tony didn't take the stage until well after 9pm.

He was so good, but around 30 minutes into his show people started to leave. Tony was a bit pissed and asked, are you leaving because you have to pay your babysitter ?

I felt bad for him and so wanted to let him know this is the norm. We arrive late for events and leave early to beat the traffic. It's the Carolina Way... That said, the symphony played way too long and I blame whoever structured the concert.

I was listening to random music the other day when Faster Pussycat's House of Pain came on. Reading the lyrics I had forgotten and considering this last year of my life, I shed a tear.

Maybe it's just me - and I'm nuts - but
  • I like The Allman Brothers Band better than Skynyrd
  • I like Marshall Tucker better than Charlie Daniels, the Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, et.al.
  • I like the Flying Burrito Brothers better than the Eagles
  • I like the Beatles and the Stones BOTH
  • I like the Atlanta Rhythm Section better than the Amazing Rhythm Aces
  • I like The Who and Led Zeppelin better than Pink Floyd and Queen
Carry on...
