Will be in 2025 in the Virginia governor's race - looks like it will be the Democrat Abigail Spanberger versus Republican Winsome Sears - could be an early sign how voters feel about Republicans in complete control in Washington

VA tends to swing against the White House the year before, but some interesting dynamics at play. Youngkin managed to stay pretty popular, but that’s largely because Republicans were defeated in the state house mid-terms that prevented an abortion ban and some other deeply unpopular policies from getting passed. His CRT tattle line got shut down within a few weeks with more crank calls than anything of note. Spannberger is popular in purple areas of the state and Sears is crazy but has stayed mostly out of the way as LT Gov.

If federal employees are fired en masse, I think the Republicans will find it very had to win in VA. The federal government is the number one employer in the DMV.

Agreed. If Trump & Company goes after federal employees, it's likely going to be very bad news for Republicans in Virginia, especially Northern Virginia.

NOVA is already heavily blue. The Dem is likely to win the governorship already just based on history, so I’m not sure how much it will actually cost them.
