I was enrolled in the University of Alaska - Fairbanks in 1982-83.

I saw some incredible Northern Lights. When the Alaskans in your dorm start banging on the doors and yell, “Get out side and see the Lights,” you get your ass outside.

All the Fall semester I heard how cold it would get. In late October, it hadn’t dropped below 20 degrees Fahrenheit….then it dropped…..25 below in one night. That’s cold.

I learned that year that one could do a lot in cold temperatures…XC Ski, run, hike, ice climb……20 above to 25 below……if active…..you were good.

Then, came February…..we had two weeks of no temperature below minus 45 Fahrenheit and no temp above minus 40 Fahrenheit.

You really can’t do shit outside at minus 40 Fahrenheit.

It’s amazingly COLD.

Correct. I was in the -40s in Montana in the 90s. You couldn't have any exposed skin or eyes. It was not warm

I remember my senior year in high school. It snowed double digits the weekend before we were supposed to go back after Christmas Vacation. Got an additional week off.

I got an extra week of Spring Break my freshmen year at App because of the "storm of the century" in 1993.
