Travis and Taylor

Tell you what, ram, I’ll work on cleaning up my language when interacting with you if you will work on educating yourself on understanding the nuances and causes and effects of different policy positions and preferences that you advocate, instead of stupidly regurgitating the absolute dumbest right wing propaganda from the absolute dumbest right wing con artist media influencers in existence. If you stop polluting the board with ignorant stupidity, and immediately assigning disagreement with you to “typical left wing ideology” I’ll have no choice but to stop polluting the board with potty words. That sounds like the art of the deal to me!

So let’s try this again: why do you think that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift having children is somehow going to incentivize young people to have children, more so than creating an implementing policy that makes every day cost of living and child rearing actually affordable? Furthermore, why do you think that the role of government is not to pass policy that can help it citizens improve their everyday lives through their hard work?

I'll give you three (off the top of my head) that you'll like.

National Park Service and FDA- Teddy Roosevelt

EPA - Richard Nixon

ADA - GHW Bush
Yeah I've seen those before;)

Teddy was no conservative

Is Nixon's administration and that GOP Congress considered conservative ? but I will give you credit for that one if you are troubled that the EPA is being neutered by Trump

Thank you moderate Lowell Weicker and liberal Tom Harkin for pushing ADA through Congress and thank you Poppy Bush for signing the bill. If you are troubled that Trump has been working to neuter the ADA then a liberal Dem, a moderate GOPer, and a moderate Poppy Bush doesn't really meet the bar for a conservative government getting credit for the ADA

no it's not...

ram is just parroting Charlie Kirk's talking points like the loyal MAGA he is;)

Of all the things that I will never understand about MAGA, millions of people flocking to follow an off-putting, condescending weirdo like Charlie Kirk is definitely pretty high on the list.

Of course the left doesn't want this because (to quote Kellyanne Conway) marriage, mortgage and munchkins turns females into Republicans. The left wants women living alone in apartments, drinking wine and cursing Trump as they binge watch Rachel Maddow.
LOL just remember this whenever ram claims to be some sort of reasonable moderate. The only two explanations for this post are (1) trolling and (2) brain rot.

Typical left wing thinking. Government solves all problems. If only Congress would enact the "Encouraging Women to Have More Children Act" of 2026 the US could improve the nation's birthrate.

Culture is far more powerful than any legislation. Taylor is a tour de force.
I don't really see this as being about the government. One of the main reasons people choose not to have kids, or not to have more kids, is lack of economic security. There are plenty of people who would love to have kids in the abstract, but don't feel they can afford to do so. If you want people to have more kids, the first step is making it more economically feasible to do so. You can do that via direct government action (i.e., chlld tax credit or similar benefits; direct payments to new parents; even Trump himself has proposed putting money into investment accounts for all newborns) or try to improve wages and lower cost of living in other ways. We will never agree about how to do that, but it's silly to ignore the importance that economic issues have with respect to low birth rates.

marriage, mortgage and munchkins ... and lots of money! It takes a village - with a lot of money - to raise munchkins. Kellyanne has it. Most Americans don't.

The National Park Service was established under Woodrow Wilson.

The ADA was bipartisan legislation that was passed by a majority Democratic Congress and principally opposed by conservatives.

And of course conservatives are currently working to undermine and reduce the authority of all of these things. So sort of undercuts the larger point, don't you think?

Yes, you dolt, as a matter of fact I have. Guess what are some really really REALLY good ways to improve that birth rate? You aren’t gonna wanna hear this!

*pssst* “The best way to improve the birth rate of the United States is not for weird, creepy old boomers to sit around wishing for celebrities to have sex, but rather to implement policies and pass legislation that will help alleviate the overall crippling cost of living caused by skyrocketing housing costs, out of control childcare costs, unaffordable healthcare costs, and obscene education costs, and the like. Things like universal maternal leave, subsidies for childcare, etc. would go a long way toward incentivizing young people to procreate.”
Doubt those policies move the birth rate needle. Most (all?) Scandinavian nations have such policies and Iceland, at 1.56, has the highest birth rate.

Young people: “You know what would make us more likely to want to try to have children? If we could afford housing! If we could afford daycare! If we could afford diapers and baby formula! If our employers’ provided sufficient parental leave! If the cost of educating children wasn’t outrageous! If wage growth would consistently outpace inflation! If the cost of groceries and household goods wasn’t skyrocketing because of bad economic policy!”

The aroused ram: “look, young people, billionaire Taylor Swift and decamillionaire Travis Kelce are having lots of sex and producing lots of children! Be like them! Quit being a bunch of left-wing lunatics and expecting government to implement policies that help you improve your lives through your own hard work!”
Taylor Swift turns 36 in December. So far, she’s childless. Something tells me she’s not having a lot of kids.

She could easily afford dozens or hundreds.

Not opposed to enacting legislation to encourage people having babies and assisting young families with child rearing expenses. But I don’t think “cost” is the only reason young people are not getting married and having children. That’s why I think culture can play a part and there’s no bigger cultural phenomena than Taylor and Kelsie. The can make marriage and having children “cool.” Look at smoking. We put the warning labels on packs from the early sixties. But it was culture that finally killed smoking from being acceptable to most Americans.

I don’t understand why this is so controversial.
