Travis and Taylor

I don't know about that but apparently she is trying to trademark the phrase "Gold Digger." Sigh. Don't know which is more embarrassing: the sentiment, or the fact that she thinks gold digger could be trademarked.

I’m sure there are plenty of Swifties who would say they don’t want her to have kids for the innocent reason you stated: it would slow down her music. I can guarantee you that’s not where my sister is coming from. She wouldn’t even deny it that it has to do with “the patriarchy” and not wanting Taylor Swift to succumb to it.
jesus h christ, man.

of course it's not not about the patriarchy. the assumption that she, with no signs of her career slowing down, would be the one shelving it to take care of these hypothetical children, rather than travis, who was already considering retirement ahead of this season? that's patriarchy. and before you respond that it's not like travis can get pregnant, the assumption that her body would have to bear those children is also a result of patriarchal thinking. the fact that your mom finds it somehow more acceptable to post her hope that taylor has children now than it was at any time before, whether it was when she was single or in a less traditional-looking relationship with joe, is a result of patriarchy. none of that means your sister hates children or thinks people/women having kids and traditional families are "succumbing," just that her existence as a public figure is a little more fraught than meets the eye. for bonus points, you could even think about what it means that the woman who once sang "she wears short skirts, i wear t-shirts/she's cheer captain and i'm on the bleachers" and appealed to the everywoman is now very publicly branding herself as, basically, the cheer captain.

so if i was your sister, i wouldn't be denying it either, but i also wouldn't be inclined to try and explain all this to the trump-supporting brother who's supposed to be my one lifeline in the family and yet revels in calling me crazy on internet message boards and puts "patriarchy" in scare quotes.
