Trump Addresses The Nation

Don’t know the exact numbers but Obama had a higher number of illegal entries so not illogical to think his deportations might be higher. He also wasn’t trying to deport millions of illegals that were let in under previous administrations which requires many additional agents. Deportations alone don’t provide an accurate story of immigration policy enforcement. Completely agree on the need for good policy.
The metric you are looking for is percentage of people in USA that are “illegal immigrants.”

What was your opinion of the 2013 bipartisan Senate immigration reform bill ? Was that good policy ?

I don't know why anyone is using the word thoughtful to describe a post that begins, "close the border. full stop."

That is about as unserious as it gets. This poster has been informed many times that it would be illegal, and yet keeps making the same mistake.

And of course he has no explanation. When you favor a policy for no reason, that is against the law, and overwhelmingly disadvantages a minority group -- gee, is that racist?

I respectfully disagree.

I have characterized Calla's responses as thoughtful because they present a conservative perspective which is much needed on our board in my humble opinion. The fact that we do not have open borders or that closed borders may be illegal notwithstanding, I see Calla's posts as an expression as an aspect of his political world view.

I find Calla thoughtful and enjoy him informing us of his conservative perspective. I seldom if ever agree with him but I welcome his contribution to the board.

I wonder if this metric will be discussed or whether we just going to assume undocumented immigrants was worse under Obama because of feelings?

You certainly never get any hard numbers from them, especially ones with any sort of supporting documentation.
I’ve provided them before. It’s not hard to find. Someone who is thoughtfully trying to discuss the issue would want to look at the relevant data.
And then there is what we see happening here.

this is the problem with liberalism. a perspective that relies on a racist, faulty premise and hopes to achieve a blatantly illegal (not to mention immoral!) outcome is not "needed on our board" just because it doesn't align with that of the posters with a foot in reality. the Golden Mean Fallacy is in full effect.

Holy **** at the hamburger meat prices at the grocery store this afternoon! I'm sure Trump doesn't mind the $20 cheeseburgers from McDonald's.

Day One!

What a gd joke of a President.

My continuing hope is that there can be a reasonable discussion and debate of the political issues. Otherwise, this board risks becoming the "echo chamber" that the conservatives complain about.

Respectfully, I do not think the Golden Mean Fallacy applies in this case.

Note that I am not definitively asserting that is ShutUpRoy’s source - just offering an opportunity to set the record straight.

One thus far not taken.

I agree. He is at least making an effort that is genuine. And yes, I do believe it is genuine even if I simultaneously think it is misguided. Admitting one was totally hoodwinked is not realistic most of the time. Calla is getting to that point internally and folks should just accept that is an improvement from knee-jerk defending everything about our emperor.
