So many Trumpers seem to revel in looking like movie and historical villains - Bond villains, Nazis, abusive husbands. It's almost like they see these people as personal heroes, not bad guys. Nah, surely it couldn't be that. The truth is that people who in earlier generations would rightly have been regarded as freaks and nutcases who lived on the fringes of society have now, thanks in large part to the internet and the gradual right-wing takeover of news media, completely taken over one of our two major political parties and then the government itself. Medical quacks, conspiracy quacks, bigots of all kinds, and so on, are now in total control of our government, and not surprisingly are acting like fringe nutcases and quacks in positions of power could be expected to act.
