One thing is for sure: Crime rates in America have dropped significantly over the past 35 years, yet studies show that people (regardless of political party) feel that crime has gotten worse during that time. It’s not suprising. There are a number of reasons for that:

1. The abundance of cameras. Almost all of us now carry around devices all the time where we can push a button and start filming things. We have cameras on our doorbells and other parts of our home. Almost every business has surveillance cameras. We have cameras on poles on our city streets. Thus, we’re able to catch people on the act of crimes in ways that we never could 15+ years ago.

2. Social media. We can more easily share our experiences with crime or pass along stories we hear regarding incidents of crime via social media. We can hear about incidents of crime from strangers we would otherwise never hear from if not for social media.

3. Politicizing crime. Politicians exploit he fear of crime to rile up voters. This has gone on forever, but now (looking back at #1) they can more easily utilize videos to stoke fear. And (looking back at #2), they can utilize social media.

Why didn't Trump send in the troops in his first term, when violent crime was worse? All the articles you posted show is that there have been some murders in DC, which happens in every freaking city - including a great many small ones (there were two murders in my little suburb and several shootings in just the last couple of months). The Atlantic article saying that DC has a crime problem doesn't preclude the fact that violent crime is declining in the city. Again, if Trump cares so much about this problem, why didn't he send in troops in his first term? Your argument remains absurd - you have a city where even if crime is high it is still provably in decline, and yet that's when your fearless leader is choosing to send in the troops. I thought Republicans wanted to save money and cut costs. Not this time, apparently.

That you would think all is well and no action needed because dc crime statistics fell to a level that is still among the highest in the country shows zero perspective. Based on your logic, a team could win 1 game for 49 straight years, then in the 50th year win 2 games and that is proof that the coach shouldn't be fired. DC is a shit hole and crime ridden to any objective person not consumed with trump hatred. As are detroit, memphis, baltimore, etc. He can't as easily address the crime problems in those cities as he can in dc. As for why now instead of his first term, who knows. Write him a letter and ask him yourself. That only matters to people who have had their brains eaten by trump. What really rubs your ass raw is that he will likely be successful like he was at the border, will get a public perception win, and it will further solidify the dim party as weak on crime. You acting all ass hurt as if his motivation isn't pure is extremely naive. It's trump. his motivation is never pure but it is both politically smart as it keeps the press off his back, and rubs salt in the open wound the dims have with being soft on crime. He is owning people like you right now.

Trump was a Democrat most of his adult life. He donated to HRC's Senatorial campaign.

He's the opposite of a conservative - he's a fake. You mean a DUMBa$$ "conservative" board.

I have them all the time and i dont hide anywhere. My identity is well known and I express myself regularly to people of all political stripes. I participate here because of the UNC tie to the board, not because it's liberal or even because it's political.
