“… In August, a week after President Donald Trump took the unprecedented step of seizing control of D.C.’s police department, The Washington Post reported that the Justice Department launched its investigation. The Republican-led House Oversight Committee launched an investigation of its own. Trump and his allies have repeatedly challenged the accuracy of local crime statistics to justify his declaration of a crime emergency. In August, the president wrote on social media: “D.C. gave Fake Crime numbers in order to create a false illusion of safety.”

Of eight current or former D.C. police employees interviewed by The Post, many of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss matters under investigation, all said they think crime has fallen over the past two years — though most said they were skeptical that some types of violent crime have dropped as steeply as city leaders claim.

Some of the skepticism has been directed at how shootings are classified, particularly those that do not result in injuries.

Supervisors and the rank-and-file often disagreeabout crime classification — and in many cases, it’s a reasonable difference of opinion, according to six of the current and former officers interviewed by The Post.

… [BUT] Some in the police force say these arguments are part of a pattern of manipulation by supervisors to achieve a long-term appearance of violent crime reduction. At first, the notes kept by officers were “not a politically motivated thing” and were instead an effort to prove what some officers saw as a persisting problem, one former detective said.

Now, with separate investigations underway at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C. and the House congressional committee that oversees the District, the long-standing concerns have found a receptive audience.…”

“… Restaurants went into this federal shutdown already on their back foot from the federal takeover and immigration crackdowns.

"I wish I could say we are doing so much to prepare, but it's really hard, I think, because we're coming off a summer where sales are already down. There aren't a lot of reserves. Restaurants typically have about 13 days of cash on hand, so there's not a lot of room there," said Diane Gross, owner of Cork Wine Bar.

… the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington launched a new campaign on Wednesday called, "Together We Dine," aimed at supporting restaurants facing what they call unprecedented challenges.

The campaign is in response to dramatic drops in sales in August.

RAMW survey data shows 71% of D.C. restaurants reported sales drops and nearly three-quarters saw a decline in diners compared to last year.“

35-36 years ago they had tried to get democracy in China and if I recall like Putin and His “War on Ukraine” the Chinese Authorities had to bring in rural troopers to run over unarmed students.
And 35 years later the authorities after damn near two generations later still are so scared of democracy that they have to increase security every June 4th in and around Tiananmen Square because of this

What’s not clear is whether Trump’s show of force in Washington has had a significant, or lasting, effect on curbing crime.
A Reuters review of public safety records and interviews with four experts on crime suggest that it is premature to draw sweeping conclusions about the impact of Trump’s deployments. While some types of crime - especially gun offenses - have become less frequent since Trump ordered troops into the city, overall violent crime hasn't changed that much.
“To make a claim based on a very short-term intervention under highly unusual circumstances doesn't make any sense,” Columbia Law School professor Jeffrey Fagan said.

Fuck'em...the resurant association pushed the local government and then sucked trump's dick for the whole return to office because they didn't like how they were losing business with everyone not in DC for work. They can suffer a 1000 bankruptcies and closings for all I give a shit. I haven't spent a dime of my money at any DC restaurant in the last year because of their close relationship with trump.

That allowed them to use the whole "if you're not willing to come back then you're fired" BS.
