Russian President Vladimir Putin possessed “devastating” information about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election campaign, including internal party emails fretting that her health was terrible and claiming she was on a daily dose of “heavy tranquilizers” because of psychological problems.

Yet Moscow, predicting a Clinton victory in November 2016, kept this information secret so Russia could use it against her when she entered the White House.

The revelation is part of a newly declassified report by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, authored by panel Republicans in September 2020, that found significant flaws in the Obama administration’s intelligence assessment that Mr. Putin “developed a clear preference” for candidate Donald Trump and that Mr. Putin and the Russian government “aspired to help” Mr. Trump win by discrediting Mrs. Clinton.

Well that information was clearly about Trump instead.
 
No shit. With all the old hits they are dusting off and recycling this is strange behavior. It is surprising that they are throwing so much against the wall at once and leaving no dry powder. They must be more concerned than I would expect so there must be some serious shit they fear can potentially be exposed. Their willingness to go immediately to defcon 1 tells me some very raw nerves have been touched.

MAGA has been calling for Hilary to be locked up for a decade and it hasn't happened yet. it's all part of the performance.

it's basically like the WWE version of politics. At the next Republican national convention they'll probably have a fake Trump supplex a fake Obama through a table, to raucous applause.

Oh yeah it’s obvious. That along with the fact Trump is saying these files were written by Obama and the Clinton’s clearly tells you it’s bad.

Sure, we'll probably never know if Hillary is as ill as the emails supposedly made here appear.

What does seem to be true is that Russia held back the information that they believed they could leverage IF Hillary won, while releasing everything else they hoped would help Trump/hurt Hillary.

Yes — I hear you. What seems different here is the specific referral by Gabbard, the “official” activity inside the Trump admin. And I suppose the desperation of Trump and those around him.

Here's what I don't understand. Trump will be president for another 3.5 years. What happens when we're two or three years from now and nothing has happened to Obama (because there's nothing remotely legal that CAN happen to Obama)? Trump is calling him a traitor. That's a big freaking accusation. What will his base think if Obama is still walking around, uncharged and certainly unjailed, in the spring of 2028? That Trump is letting a traitor get off?

Now, in the 2% chance Trump actually does something to Obama, all bets are off. To the extent there is any doubt now, that will be the moment we will know with absolute certainty that the GOP has abandoned anything resembling the rule of law.

Which goes back to the point that they also likely withheld more information on Trump, that would have been leveraged should he have won (which he did).

Possibly. I think we understand why the current Trump administration is releasing this information. What we don't know is why the Biden administration would not release damaging documents about Trump, if they existed.

My initial reaction was similar, but ultimately his base's brains are so melted at this point that it won't matter. They were chanting to lock up Hilary in 2016 and no one has cared one bit that Trump hasn't done anything in all his time as president. They'll spout off about Obama being a traitor forever and never care that obviously if it was true, trump would have prosecuted him. IMO the only way Trump will possibly be desperate enough to do it (which, as I've said, will be politically unpopular for everyone but the MAGA base - not to mention difficult legally given the standard Trump had the Supreme Court set!) is if things are really falling apart for him and he needs a huge distraction.

Probably for the same reason the Biden admin didn't, say. try to fire every Republican in the government or have political stooges metaphorically suck off Biden at cabinet meetings - because the Biden admin wasn't run by a banana republic-style strongman seeking to govern via coercion rather than through the use of the actual levers of government.

Obama and Clapper are backed and verified by the Rubio Committee. He is immune per SCrOTUS anyway.
