Trump & GOP v. Pope Leo

GOP Projection all the way. The real Pharisees are Hegseth and others of his ilk. The Pharisees were also corrupt power-hungry hypocrites who bent religious laws to maintain their power. For Hegseth to compare Trump and himself to Jesus is the height of egomania. As always, Republicans like Hegseth insist upon projecting their own sins onto their critics and opponents, which makes them all the more dangerous to our democracy and Bill of Rights.

I just have to say it, again... IMAGINE IF IT WERE A DEM TRASHING THE POPE.
The double standard regarding MAGA Republicans and Democrats long ago reached absurd levels. If any Democrat had done and said the things had Trump and Hegseth have done in just the last two weeks there would be national media outrage 24/7 and Congressional Republicans would be holding impeachment hearings ASAP. Republicans can now literally start wars for stupid reasons and have them become a disaster, they can say and do the most outrageous things (like attack the Pope), and our news media just shrugs for the most part. Let a Democrat do the same and they would be destroyed politically and shredded by the news media without mercy or pity. It's the world we now live in.

Incorrect. The Pharisees were not corrupt power-hungry hypocrites who bent religious laws to maintain their power. That's just what the gospels claim because they were butthurt that the Jewish leadership (and Jews more generally) didn't think a crucified political criminal was the messiah.

I'm not getting into a debate over people's historical views of the gospels or the pharisees, because my greater point is that it's Hegseth and other MAGAs of his ilk who are the real hypocrites and frauds here, not the news media who dare to call them out. If you want to have that debate then you're free to argue it elsewhere or with someone else, but I'm not diverting this thread to get into an argument that's irrelevant to the main discussion going on here, which involves serious real-world stuff that's happening right now.

Well then say that dipshit, and don’t use a centuries-old anti-Jewish smear.

LOL. The leaders of the Religious Right are freaking out because they know that the Pope has the influence and credibility to damage them, so they're trying to silence him, or failing that, to discredit him with their followers. I seriously doubt they'll silence the Pope - the guy is from Chicago and has no doubt met pols and people much tougher than Donald Trump - but it's clear that the Cult of Trump will go to any lengths to defend their actions and those of Dear Leader, including attacking even the Pope, and on the incredible grounds that they understand Christian theology better than he does (and I say incredible because Trump has never read the Bible even once in his life, and Hegseth just quoted some lines from Pulp Fiction in the apparent belief that it was Biblical quote).
