Why is Elon Musk attacking Keir Starmer over grooming gang scandal and will there be an inquiry?

Labour government facing pressure over its response to grooming gangs

[Short answer - Musk is pressing for a right-wing government in the UK]

“… The tech billionaire triggered an attack on the government on Thursday, as he suggested Ms Phillips “deserves to be in prison”.

He also appeared to place blame at Starmer’s door, arguing that “rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice” during Sir Keir’s time as director of public prosecutions.

Since the Tesla boss posted his claims on X, several high profile figures including Tory leader Kemi Badenoch have also spoken out calling for a full inquiry into the sexual abuse.

… The criticism began after safeguarding minister Jess Phillips formally denied requests for the Home Office to lead a public inquiry into child sexual exploitation and grooming in Oldham.

Ms Phillips said she recognised the “strength of feeling” for a Home Office-led inquiry, but she told the local council the Government will not “intervene”.

“I believe it is for Oldham Council alone to decide to commission an inquiry into child sexual exploitation locally, rather than for the Government to intervene,” she said. …”

(Cont’d)

“… Instead of the Government leading a probe, Oldham must follow in the footsteps of other towns like Rotherham and Telford and commission its own inquiry into historical abuse of children, Ms Phillips said in a letter to the local council.

The last Tory government also rejected a similar request from Oldham council for a public inquiry, saying it is for local authorities to commission local inquiries.

… The businessman, who owns X, has used the social media site to post or repost about child grooming in the UK more than 40 times over the last 24 hours.

Mr Musk also shared a post asking whether King Charles “should dissolve parliament and order a general election… for the sake and security” of Britain.

A national inquiry by Professor Alexis Jay concluded in 2022, and probes into Greater Manchester Police’s handling of historical child sex abuse cases in Manchester, Oldham and Rochdale have already been carried out.

The inquiry looked into abuse by organised groups following multiple convictions of sexual offences against children across the UK between 2010-2014, including in Rotherham, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Rochdale and Bristol.

… Mr Streeting said the Government was committed to implementing the recommendations of Professor Jay’s report “in full”.

The Health Secretary also told the PA news agency that ministers were supportive of an inquiry into the Oldham scandal, but signalled it had to be led locally. …”

But he will sure as shit use him to pressure new elections with Musk’s support for his party to usher in a new far right government of Breiteers and anti-immigrant/White Nationalists in the UK.

He’s using venal right wing politicians, internationally, to cement corporatocracy, with himself as the comically on-the-nose super villain. Elon Musk doesn’t give two shits about sex trafficking in the UK; he cares about hurting politicians that would dare create obstacles to his accretion of power.

Note, too, how Musk is co-opting (if possible) the Q-Anon strategy of using real (and then embellished and ultimately fabricated in the Q space) child sexual abuse and trafficking to recruit people to a far right cause. Convince people that they are fighting against child-raping lizard people and convince them their own government is hiding/running the evil cover-up and abuse, then they believe any other conspiracy you post and you direct them against whatever political target you choose.

The 2022 national report on these “rape gangs” and child sex groomers was full of a lot of horrific details. Stuff that should be prevented and if not prevented harshly punished. But Musk is turning a dispute about jurisdiction over an investigation into a claim of unwillingness to investigate, then tying it to a far far right anti-immigrant provocateur who intentionally and repeatedly spread lies about a particular immigrant despite losing court cases etc. — a guy so rotten that even Farrage wants to keep his distance.

It is gross exploitation of a serious issue that requires serious government response for political chaos aimed at positioning pols he can control in power in another country (having already bought a spot in the upper echelon of the Trump Administration).

And Musk is similarly promoting a far right neo-Nazi party in German elections.

He is publicly announced member of the incoming administration, attacked at the hip to Trump and absolutely out of control. He should lose any security clearance he has, but of course he owns Trump who will restore and like expand his clearance.

Within just a few years, the richest man on the planet went from an apparent techno-humanistic-environmentalistic-mental health and free speech advocate to an outright white supremacist, rage bait troll, with a publicly spiraling erratic mental state and a comically (acknowledging the damage isn’t comical) absurd sense of self importance.

Billionaires shouldn’t exist, for more than just the rank and inherent inequities.

If in the year 2000, you had a bet that in 25 years that a South African would be on the cusp of bossing multiple governments globally by way of social media pressure, thereby coercing governments in some of the most powerful countries on the planet to do his bidding, you might be as rich as Elon is.

Whoever said he was becoming a super-villain on this post isn't that far off. How the heck is our government going to say no to him?

Nobody is going to push back on him. Nobody has the power to do so.

Having been empowered to do so by the American proletariat. That’s what’s most stunning to me.

For emphasis from his notes:

Which helps solve part of the riddle — why did a military explosives expert use such amateur pyrotechnics that were unlikely to cause much collateral damage? Because he knew what he was doing and intended only a spectacular self-immolation. Not because there is something special about the design of Cybertrucks but because he used the vehicle to make a statement in his own suicide (though maybe Musk & Tesla can run an ad now that Cybertrucks are the safest vehicle for self-immolation suicide?).

I would ask what social media is

For the record, I called this way back at the beginning. I said the driver was probably self-immolating to make a point, like the climate change protester who lit himself on fire.

Also for the record, the worst thing I've done with manic anger is punch a wall. Never even thought of going out with such a big bang. So get off my case, if there are any on it.

Lots of people have the power to do so. It's just a question of will.

Europe could wreck Musk by banning Tesla and Twitter. He'll eat the loss on Twitter but he will look a lot less invincible, and Tesla is a stock that can plunge very easily. It isn't built on fundamentals at all. And Europe could easily ban Tesla and Twitter if the political will was there.
