He does not understand trade and it is scary how much power Congress has ceded the Executive office on this issue. Trade is not a zero sum game.

We will see if Americans are willing to suffer (for how long? a few years(?)) and embrace austerity to live within the country’s means in an age of extraordinary wealth disparity that means most Americans will experience billionaire deployed austerity quite differently from the billionaires themselves.

Unfortunately many of the raw materials needed are not available in the quantities needed, part of why African relationships and trade are very important.
 

Premier Doug Ford has ordered the LCBO to strip its shelves of American products in response to the U.S. imposing 25 per cent tariffs on most Canadian imports starting Tuesday.

"Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore," said Ford in a statement Sunday morning.

Ford says American liquor will be removed from LCBO shelves "starting Tuesday."

If Lutheran Social Services operates senior care facilities across the upper Midwest they are bound to receive a shitload of payments from Medicare and Medicaid. Nothing wrong with that. So DOGE/MAGA wants to shut this down which will kill people. This was always the danger of allowing Musk to access this data so he could breach security and weaponize innocent payments. And MAGA is generally so stupid they will believe this is corrupt and illegal payments since fElon said so.

Our board Trump voters will be on here defending this as soon as they get their talking points from their media bubble. Just watch.

I said since the election, thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of Americans will needlessly die due to ttump, just like the first time around. Within the first few days, I'm thinking I was sanguine. The removal of USAID is another story, but will almost certainly result in hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of unnecessary international deaths. See funding of health clinics, HIV drugs, malaria, mpox, etc.

As a direct result of Musk's meddling and the malignant malice of ttump, miller, vought, et al. nursing homes and hospitals will shut down; ttump et al. are hiding information regarding communicable diseases and public health risks (i.e. they'll let corporations dump metaphorical cancer into rivers x, y, z); ttump et al. are creating barriers to care for people on Medicare and Medicaid; they're hamstringing research into cancer, genetic disorders, etc..

My healthcare system is scrambling just to fill vacant clinical roles, while also loosely communicating an ominous future, i.e. uncertain reliability of medicare and medicaid payments, planning for significant budget cuts, pairing back specialty care, etc. Mind you, this is a teaching and research institution that right now is so overloaded and understaffed that cancer patients are boarded in hallway nooks; the emergency department literally has patients lining the hallways, for 50 yards, outside the department (not to mention the waiting room chaos). An element of this is certainly the dearth of qualified clinicians vs demand; however, the money is there to fund all of the necessary care and research, but the techbroligarchs and fascists are actively consolidating power and resources for themselves and their cronies, at the expense of 99.8% of everyone else.

I’m not sure. Maybe Ramrouser will. The other Pubs seem to be getting a sense of how bad this is. HeelYeah will only engage on transphobic discussions, so I’m not sure what he thinks about the broader authoritarian takeover, but I’m pretty sure people like Callatoroy are rapidly figuring out that their predictions of a benign, mostly constructive Trump 2.0 were wildly naive.
