All of the pics with Elon, RFK Jr, etc are making me conclude JD Vance must have had other plans since election night. Hope he isn’t feeling left out.
I have a hunch that Vance is going to be treated as little more than a gofer and whipping boy for Dear Leader. Trump didn't seem to care for Pence from the beginning, and I doubt that he'll treat Vance much better, no matter how much Vance brown noses him and kisses his ass. Of course if Trump dies in his second term then Vance will become POTUS, which may be what he's hoping for.

Mike Johnson’s evangelical upbringing certainly seems to have prepared him well to lie like a dog and plead ignorance to things he knows very well. Model Christian you have leading the House, Pubs.
Well, rumor has it that he watches porn and he and his son have an app on their cellphones that allows them to monitor each other's porn use, so yes he may be the perfect Evangelical politician.

The question occurred to me today, after again thinking about the round of revenge prosecutions that are being lined up:

At what point does John Roberts realize he was duped by the most obvious con man in history? I mean, obviously Roberts wanted to protect Trump at all costs, but "we need to give Trump immunity to prevent cycles of revenge prosecutions" is now one of the stupidest, most dangerous, most catastrophically un-cabinable, most anti-constitutional holding in the history of the Supreme Court. Roberts will go down in history with Taney as the worst and least competent Chief Justices of all time, and all to protect the orange man. Oh, the leopards are full indeed.

In fairness, the media has spent months sanewashing Trump, and they don't even like him.

No way Trump lets a guy who’s so much younger, smarter, more articulate, and most likely a bit more ethically and morally inclined than he get a minute more camera time than necessary.
The press corps may need to camp out at the Naval Observatory for proof of life.

I've been saying for years that he is the worst since Taney ...He was tilling the soil in preparation for this crisis years before Trump came on the scene

cast the critical vote to gut the voting rights act in Shelby

voted with the 5-4 majority in Citizens United

I prefer Biden and company to lay out why they are not ceding the presidency to Trump and company. There’s so much amiss right now and a true existential threat imminently. To just relinquish this power as if nothing bad is going on would be very ignorant in my opinion. This is not right. If a civil war is inevitable, might as well have it out now while you have some control over things. And in particular the armed services.

Odds are there won’t be a midterm election.

It is a fascinating - and frightening - question. Knowing what everyone knows about Trump and how he tried to prevent his eviction from the White House in January 2021, if things don't look good for the GOP in the 2026 midterm elections, does anyone really doubt that he and Elon and some others would try to use their power to influence or even cancel the elections in some way? The answer is of course they would - there are no restraints on presidential power now, as long as the president claims they're doing something as a part of "national business." If the shit hits the fan and the economy takes a real hit in some way and the Democrats are looking good in 2026, then it's hard to believe that Trump & Company won't use every bit of their power and total control of all three branches of the federal government to keep the Democrats from winning control of even one House of Congress.

“… Sources close to the Trump campaign said the focus on Chinese nationals was part of a larger transition team plan to potentially end two Biden administration immigration programs and make those who have entered the country but not yet received asylum eligible for deportation. Trump has repeatedly suggested that “military-age” men from China have been preparing to form an army against the United States. …”

Mike Johnson needs to also share a Liar app with his son. Because he is one.

Yes, I've been saying that too. But the claim is probably more accurate -- or at least was, before this summer -- as the worst since the Court's modern era (which started sometime around 1900-1910 depending on the classification system). There were a lot of bad justices in the Gilded Age. We don't often hear about their opinions, as they have largely been mooted by events, overruled by statute, or have been gradually overturned over the years by their impracticality. But there were some absolute doozies.

Yes, the best time for a civil war is when you control the drones.

I wouldn't say "odds are" until we can at least specify how the election would be cancelled. It's a real fear, given Trump's expressed desire to be a dictator and the cabinet selections which only make sense within that framework. But I would put better odds not on cancelling, but on trying to rig the elections through disinformation and scare tactics. They are going to turn the DOJ civil rights division into a means for suppressing civil rights.

Maybe if it all falls apart you're right. It's a possibility to keep in mind (as if we could ever let it get far) but I wouldn't say "odds are" just yet.

Thanks Joe. Trump had it under control but you just couldn’t help yourself thinking about all those future dem voters moving into red states. Now we have to spend $300B to clean up his mess.
If by under control, do you mean an illegal immigration policy that was voided by the federal courts? Do you mean the policies that allowed the most entrants into the country in two decades, unaffected by the pandemic realities that caused the surge in 2021? What exactly do you mean by "under control"? Separating young children from their families for no reason at all?

Come on, people. If we’re going down (and I don’t think that’s inevitable, although a lot of suffering probably is), let’s not do it by destroying the constitution ourselves. There’s way too much of that talk from the other side. The only way we can win is by fighting for the rule of law. If we win but the rule of law is destroyed, we won’t have won at all.

There is a huge overlap between anti-mask and anti-vax.

Likewise, there is a huge overlap between anti-vax and banning “toxic” substances from food. You even see that in @HeelYeah2012 posts.

So I don’t see this as a contradiction for the current MAGA GOP. Obviously, it would be out of place in 1980s GOP.
It's a contradiction in that they have no principles when it comes to personal choice vs. government overreach.
