Sure, there are R voters would take away the right for LGBTQ to marry. Those are people who are "confused" on what it means to have rights that can't be infringed upon by the government. There are legit racists, homophobes, transphobes, etc, but I don't think for a second there are 74 million or even half that and the broad-brush painting of all Trump voters (different than supporters) as being deplorables or garbage or a just a bunch of uninformed racists, xxxphobes, etc is why the Dem party is losing, IMO.
No, they are losing because that's the truth, unfortunately.

William McKInley was not president in the 1880s, nor most of the 1890s.

there was a depression from 1882 to 1885 and a recession from 1887 through 1888, then another in 1890.

Two panic and bank runs (1893 and 1896) and another recession in 1899 when McKinkley actually was president

but I know facts mean nothing so tariff away orange man

Trump eyes privatizing U.S. Postal Service, citing financial losses

Trump feuded with the mail agency in his first term. Privatizing it could shake up consumer shipping and business supply chains.

“President-elect Donald Trump has expressed a keen interest in privatizing the U.S. Postal Service in recent weeks, three people with knowledge of the matter said, a move that could shake up consumer shipping and business supply chains and push hundreds of thousands of federal workers out of the government.

Trump has discussed his desire to overhaul the Postal Service at his Mar-a-Lago estate with Howard Lutnick, his pick for commerce secretary and the co-chair of his presidential transition, the people said. Earlier this month, Trump also convened a group of transition officials to ask for their views on privatizing the agency, one of the people said.

Told of the mail agency’s annual financial losses, Trump said the government should not subsidize the organization, the people said. …”
As we are in week three of a postal strike / lockout here in privatized mail Canada, not sure your average rural American will handle their Christmas stuff going undelivered, let alone pay checks etc etc. Tell you who is not going to bother opening a distribution hub and armpit lick Idaho, Trump's best friend Bezos.

But yeah privatize away.

It kills me that we may go into a recession simply because Trump thinks the word tariff is cool.

So it’s your premise that you can sit in judgment of “legacy media” while not actually viewing any content from legacy media sources like WaPo, NYT, CNN, NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC.

Cool.
I read and see clips of what the legacy media is reporting through sources. In addition, many of NBC's reporters appear on MSNBC. I also watch the Sunday news shows.

That's interesting, your take on fear.

Considering the fear that trump sold.
You know the fear of everyone crossing the boarder being murders and rapist. The fear of them taking your jobs. The fear of a child being born here receiving citizenship. The fear of change in the auto markets. The fear of socialism and Marxism. The fear of who might be in the bathroom with you. The fear of someone taking your precious guns. The fear of non-christian religions in a country with religious freedom.

The issues the left have with trump don't come from the media, they come from, Mr dictator for a day, trump. The man who could have stopped Jan 6th before it started, but didn't because he wanted it. The man that loves to suck up to dictators. The man that makes statements about shooting press members. One doesn’t have to watch the news, one can simply watch the rallies.
I'm not talking about the political parties, during election season, trying to scare voters about the other side. That's been done forever. Republicans have been trying to cut social security and kill grandma since the early 1980s.

I'm talking about the media actually trying to scare or hype up its viewers - presumably for ratings. You saw it during COVID and it continues today.

You mean like FOX’s fearmongering over undocumented immigrant crime, immigrant caravans, etc? Or FOX’s fearmongering over vaccine mandates? Or FOX’s fearmongering over Biden getting us into WW3? Or FOX’s fearmongering about the economy? Or FOX’s fearmongering about trans people?

Don’t forget Fox’s fear-mongering and lying about “stolen elections” in 2020.

I read most of my information and take opinions with a grain of salt.

Some things, like cutting SS benefits being in Trump's annual budget proposals each year he was previously president are not opinion, there's proof to support that.

As for COVID that was a unique situation in that I don't believe anyone knew the answers at first and they adapted as more information was available.

I've seem many, after the fact, claim that it wasn't as bad based on final numbers. It is my belief that the preventative actions actually kept the number of cases down. Had we done nothing, as many claimed we should have, i believe the numbers would have been higher. Do you believe we would have been better off yo have taken none of the preventative actions that we tried?

Now if you are simply discussing hype, that's basically what news is, since most news is outside what we expect in a normal day or in a routine normal presidency.

I don't recall similar adulation for certain world leaders from previous presidents, as we saw/see from Trump. This supports my position that it's not so much the opinions, it's trumps actual words and actions.

At this point we will see how the next 4 years go. Though gotchas can seam appealing in theory, i don't want to see the country fall apart or slide into economic uncertainty, so i hope that it is hyperbole and that the next 4 years end up being as positive as possible.

It would be nice also if the republicans could understand the life of marginalized people without pretending that outliers are the norm, so that we can continue to move toward everyone being seen equally in the eye of the government and the law.
