But seriously, I think these actions are the result of Trump's pathological insecurity. He needs to humiliate others to build himself up and his ignorant base incorrectly views these acts of insecurity as displays of dominance, which they adore. I can definitely see the desire for more physical land falling under the umbrella of insecurity.

Do you actually think he is planning to take the panama canal? I mean do you seriously think that? How would he do it? He wants something from panama. Likely to stop refugees from coming or help in stemming the flow of drugs. Could be anything. Its the typical trump playbook. Its almost laughable how you guys freak out over something that he isn't even capable of doing. He really does live in your heads rent free. He can literally just post something and your pearls get polished over and over.

So, Trump has no capability to do anything regarding Panama but will try use that non-leverage to his advantage.

I see this as trump's way of diplomacy. I often think surely these people see this for what it is and then I see a thread like this and think these people really think he is planning on taking the panama canal.
It sure sent this group on here into a frenzy so maybe he thinks it will work on panama as well.

Before the Civil War, white Southern slaveowners were freaking out about slave states steadily falling behind the free states in population growth, and so there were efforts before the war for the South to buy or take over places that they felt they could turn into new slave states or territories. One was Cuba, and there was apparently some discussion in the South of just keeping parts of Mexico after the Mexican War, which of course didn't happen. In the end they focused on trying to open the Western territories taken from Mexico to slavery, which aroused strong free state opposition and helped bring on the Civil War. James McPherson writes about all this in his chapter "An Empire for Slavery" in his Pulitzer-prize winning Battle Cry of Freedom.
Not likely. But if trump really wanted Panama and/or the canal, who is going to stop him? Actually, at some point we may have to reclaim the canal. Reclaim not just for national security but also to keep the darn thing functioning.
To what end? Be specific. How will "it" work? What will "it" achieve?
