You have to be awfully naive at this point to think that the American people would actually blame Republicans if they caused another pandemic. Half the country would blame China, Satan, Democrats, Fauci, gays, and the Jews before they would actually blame Republicans for something they did.

RFK is probably likely to have more of a problem with the influence Big Pharma and Big Food have in Congress than with Republican Senators actually being worried about anyone's health and welfare.
Maybe. But I think that stuff might not work this time. It's sort of hard to a) be in control when the biggest pandemic in 100 years hit; b) completely botch the response; c) blame China; and then d) create a new epidemic of disease. People might wake up.

Are they willing to sacrifice their material standard of living for Trump? Yes. Are they going to sacrifice their children's health? Remains to be seen, but I suspect not. That will be the line they draw. Maybe.

You are making the assumption here that people locked in conservative media bubbles who entirely lack critical thinking skills have any chance of ever hearing, or independently reaching the conclusion, that Trump's admin is to blame for something happening. The question isn't whether they would sacrifice their children for Trump. The question is how they would ever figure out that Trump is the reason their children are dying.

Fair enough. But that's why I think this is different. Trump voters can be deceived about a lot of things. If the economy crashes, you can blame Kamala or Soros or whoever. But if there's suddenly a nationwide outbreak of measles, occurring shortly after Trump fucked with the vaccines, I don't think they will need any information to draw the appropriate conclusion.

There will be some lag time as we fall below herd immunity. I don't know how close we are to that.

Not a cabinet position but important:

Also, no matter how many “hereby” and similar words he uses, this is not an official nomination.

At some point the Elon Trump bromance is going to blow up. And it will be fucking wonderful.

There is no way in Hell these two will coexist for long now that the public adoration phase is over.
We'll see. I'm not counting on it happening any time soon; IMO it won't happen unless and until things start to go really wrong. I hope that happens quickly, because the Trump admin quickly and publicly breaking things that work is our best realistic shot out of all of this. But it might not.

Over/under one year?
Hard to know, but we're talking about two people with the smallest attention span: responsibilities ratio in the history of American politics.

Chances seem high to me that they will just drift apart. DOGE is just a joke anyway, as Elon seems to be admitting when asking for unpaid volunteers to work 80 hour weeks. It's a bunch of performative bullshit; they'll stick with it for a couple of months, and then it will be gone.

If Kennedy focuses on improving nutrition then it’s fine. The wacko shit on vaccines and all the other conspiracies? No.
Man if he goes after school lunches and doesn’t get the Michelle Obama treatment, then I’ll be sorely disappointed. But of course, he’ll never get the Michelle Obama treatment.

Like the Kolbach election integrity commission?

What, from the last decade of "performative" bullshit by Elon Musk and 40+ years of it from Donald Trump, makes you believe that it will be gone in a couple of months?

If only we had a recent example of an republicans making an outbreak worse and successfully pinning it on democrats. Oh, wait. We do. But this time will be different.
