The idea of antisepsis in medicine didn't generally take hold until the late nineteenth century. Semmelweis discovered the principle earlier but he was such an ass, people didn't much listen. Pasteur's work with germs and Lister finding a practical way and agent for the process paved the way. That alone might have given major cities a positive birthrate for the first time.

Medical freedom? The freedom to make uneducated decisions that can impact everyone around you based on your ignorant opinion, and not considering science or medical research. Hmmmm....
Medical freedom concerning vaccine mandates is akin to personal freedom concerning speed limits and other traffic laws. It impacts everyone around you, idiots!

Can I ask a really important question on this thread? Why, when talking about the move from X to Bluesky, are we not calling it “The Xodus?” Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen.
I dont understand the move to Blue Sky. It's run by Jack, no? The same guy that let twitter get out of control and then turned it over to fucking Elon?

BS seems to essentially be Twitter from 2019. As for handing it to Musk, I’m not sure how much choice he really had. It was a public company at the time.

Being governor of a major state has to be much more fun than being a junior senator, even in the majority. Seems like Senators don’t enjoy the job, can’t blame them with the way it operates.
He’s term limited to two more years. He’s never going to be president. The Senate is a relatively cushy gig with lots of grifting opportunities.

Dorsey started Bluesky years ago (while he was still with Twitter and well before Elon), but no longer owns or involved from my understanding.

he didn't cash out completely, he kept an ownership share of Twitter after it went private. It's worth not that much any more, but he kind of kissed Elon's ring ont he way out on the merit of "pure free speech" or whatever.

Will never, ever not crack me up that the massive political party realignment in our country is that it is now **conservatives** who are the ones begging and pleading for Big Daddy Government to step into literally every area of their lives. Monitor my wife and daughters’ periods, Daddy! Regulate my personal medical decisions and my marriage choice and my recreational sex, Daddy! Ban books that I don’t agree with, Daddy! Ban my Chips Ahoy and my Doritos and my Mountain Dew, Daddy! Tell me what I can and can’t eat, Daddy! Govern me harder, Daddy!

What happened to the “small government, less regulation, and individual freedom and liberty” conservatives!? Did your balls just drop off?

We’ve come a long way since Mike Bloomberg’s much maligned soda ban.

“… Even some Senate Republicans expressed doubts.

“He’s got his work cut out for him,” Senator Joni Ernst, an Iowa Republican who was believed to have been on Mr. Trump’s short list for the defense secretary job, said of Mr. Hegseth on Wednesday.

[Ernst won’t buck Trump]

… Senator Todd Young, Republican of Indiana, said he was excited about many of Mr. Trump’s nominees. But when it came to Mr. Hegseth, he said, “I don’t know much about his background or vision.”

[So that’s a yes]

During a recent podcast interview, Mr. Hegseth said that Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the senior military adviser to the president, should be fired for being too “woke.” He has also said that “we should not have women in combat roles.”

Mr. Hegseth, one senior Pentagon official said on Thursday, has instead sought to project the image of the Jack Nicholson character in the film “A Few Good Men,” who dramatically proclaims: “You want me on that wall.” …”

So basically we're making a waterboy the athletic director. Cool. Keep on sticking it to the libs, pubs! That leopard's gonna be well fed over the next four years.
