Why is there never a mention of actually reforming the immigration system so those who want to come here and work have a clear path to do so?
True reform needs to happen, which would have require Congress.

I'm just saying, in principle, I don't an issue with removing most anyone here illegally.

Look, the reality is we have no idea what Trump will actually do because he’s a compulsive liar who breaks almost every promise he makes and has no qualms about saying literally anything, no matter how wrong or offensive. All we have to work with is what he said he would do. Zen seems determined to assume Trump will be better than he’s said he will be. I certainly hope that’s true. I’d even take incompetent and ineffective. But holy freaking cow, how did we end up with a dishonest, unpredictable madman running this country with unlimited immunity? That’s no way to run a PTA, much less a railroad, and MUCH less the most powerful nation in the history of the world.

As long as they start with the majority, you know those that overstayed work visas, let's do it. I'm sure people leaving all of the high paying IT jobs, vacating their expensive homes, and moving back to the country of origin, will have no negative impacts on our economy.

And why do you say "most", who would you let stay and why?

That's so nice of him not to want to break up families. 🤮

Where's Zen, this seems to address if it is only for future children born here.

I don't like that. I'd rather make an exception for the parent(s).

I wonder how many situations there are where two parents are here illegally and they brought a child from a foreign country or had a child while in the US.

The majority of undocumented immigrants in the United States live with their families:

  • Household composition
Nearly half of undocumented immigrant households are couples with children, 15% are couples without children, and 13% are single-person households.

  • Mixed status households
Almost 70% of households with unauthorized immigrants are considered “mixed status,” meaning they also contain lawful immigrants or U.S.-born residents.

  • Children of undocumented immigrants
By 2008, 73% of children of undocumented immigrants were U.S. citizens by birth.

  • US citizens living with undocumented residents
6.7 million US citizens share their household with an undocumented resident, with 5.5 million of those being minors.

“… The move in the WWE case, from Judge James Bredar in Maryland’s federal district court, will keep the proceeding against McMahon and the company at bay until a ruling from the Maryland Supreme Court, which heard arguments in September.

The lawsuit raises questions of what McMahon knew and when at the time she was head of the professional wrestling company and a ringside announcer allegedly preyed on underage boys. The pause has the potential to delay the case through any Senate confirmation proceeding for McMahon, who denies the allegations.

The case recently arose after Maryland changed its law to lift the statute of limitations for lawsuits related to sex abuse of minors. But the Maryland Supreme Court is set to rule on a challenge to that law from other organizations that have been sued and argue they should not have to face allegations of turning a blind eye to abuse years after it occurs. …”

Hundreds of thousands. Millions if you go back far enough.

I hope to retire before 60. Screw the rat race.
I'd love to as well, but that's not possible for everyone, or even a great majority of people. Depending on the surveys and studies I've read, at least 40% of retirees depend almost entirely on Social Security for their retirement income, and many more need it as a supplement to what other savings they do have. Abolishing, privatizing, or even just significantly cutting it will be a disaster of epic proportions, imo. Not that Trump or Elon or any of their other plutocrat buddies would care, of course.

It's not a fucking "policy" that can be changed and made past tense. It's in the 14th Amendment, motherfucker.
So how will the courts and SCOTUS rule if Trump deports American born brown folks using his immunity for "official acts" as president vs. Section 1 of the 14th Amendment after having granted Trump tacit immunity to avoid violating Section 3 of the 14th Amendment ?

Again, I wish I could share your confidence in our judicial system as it stands today...

1000%. If I am able to, I totally get how lucky I would be. I am just replying to the "I will work until I am dead" - F that. I wanna live.

Anywhere after 18 years, we're talking about adults. The legal adult "children" can make their own choices regarding where they live, but the parents should be removed.

Minor children, of two illegal parents, I would let the family stay until the child is an adult. Then the parents need to be removed and the child can make their own decision.

Not gonna happen. He can't do that.

What happens when they have more children?

Well, obviously it has become more difficult to predict SCOTUS than in the past. Well, let me be more specific. Easier to predict how the cases they take will come out (though not that easy, as the immunity decision made clear); less easy to figure out what crazy crusade they might latch onto.

But I still contend that the best way to understand this court is to focus on what the Justices care about most. It's really the most self-focused Court in a very long time, filled by Justices who apparently have few reservations about foregrounding their own parochial concerns. And I just don't predict this to be an issue where they want to stick out their necks. Thomas and Alito are itching for this fight, but I have my doubts about the others. Could be wrong.

Anyway, the immunity case doesn't really play a role. If Trump tries to start deporting American citizens, they will go to court to get an injunction against that (note: now it's liberals' turn to forum shop! Fifth Circuit will get some competition). Whether Trump can be criminally charged doesn't affect that -- unless, I suppose, he were to ignore the court order, but I very much doubt SCOTUS will let him off the hook for that. SCOTUS will not see it as an official act to undercut their own imperial authority.

Then the parents need to be removed and the child can make their own decision.
The parents need to be removed in exactly the same way that all jaywalkers need to be ticketed and all public drunkenness needs to be prosecuted as a misdemeanor criminal offense where applicable.
