I don't like that. I'd rather make an exception for the parent(s).
I wonder how many situations there are where two parents are here illegally and they brought a child from a foreign country or had a child while in the US.
The majority of undocumented immigrants in the United States live with their families:
- Household composition
Nearly half of undocumented immigrant households are couples with children, 15% are couples without children, and 13% are single-person households.
- Mixed status households
Almost 70% of households with unauthorized immigrants are considered “mixed status,” meaning they also contain lawful immigrants or U.S.-born residents.
- Children of undocumented immigrants
By 2008, 73% of children of undocumented immigrants were U.S. citizens by birth.
- US citizens living with undocumented residents
6.7 million US citizens share their household with an undocumented resident, with 5.5 million of those being minors.
