In 1980, Congress established the Department of Education as a Cabinet level agency.
Really, do tell?!

Next you’re going to tell me they carved it out of Health, Education, and Welfare. Then, you’re going to tell me Joe Califano headed HEW before it split into two departments - Education and HHS in 1979, not 1980.

No reason to show your ass

The point being can the President shut down something congress created
I took the 1980 date from the dept of Education website for its being a cabinet level agency as per the sentence

I wasn’t commenting on whether or not POTUS can restructure the Administration in many ways.

My comment was that Trump in his rambling mess was up to 54-55 states.

“… Speaking with Full Measure’s Sharyl Attkisson, Trump argued that the United States—which was founded by and has historically been a nation of immigrants—shouldn’t be a “dumping ground” for newcomers.

“But we’re getting the criminals out, and we’re going to do that fast, and we know who they are, and the local police know their names, and they know their serial numbers,” Trump said. “They know everything about them.” …”

When I first read this quote, I thought Trump was probably channeling the old “name, rank and serial number” command to captured military members.

But some commentators are tying it instead to Nazi serial number tattoos of Jews during the Holocaust — considering the context (rounding up people for deportation camps) not entirely unjustified, though it feels like more of a stretch than needed to critique Trump’s many outrageous statements.

Already posted some of this last night but Trump’s paternalistic and cynical attempts to attract women voters and to take credit for overturning Roe while complaining how the media focuses too much on abortion rather than the country going to hell and women won’t need to worry their heads anymore if he is their protector really is something.

Trump seems unsure whether his fans know about the SALT deduction cap (or that his tax cuts were offset in part by that cap).

That whole "protector" speech is just freaking creepy. It has stalker vibes, at best, and Handmaid's Tale-type innuendo, at worst.

I'm sure some women find it strong and comforting, but it's also the kind of thing that a more normal man would say before police get involved and a restraining order is put in place.

Sounds like something Hinckley might have written to Jodie Foster.
