All of these people are absolute clowns. If Halligan actually reported to anyone at Justice I'm sure they would have told her not to do this. (Seriously? reaching out to one fairly obscure reporter who was just retweeting/commenting on a NYT story? What did she possibly hope to accomplish?) But the sheer presumptuousness to just assume that if you send Signal texts the reporter won't screenshot them? Or that you don't have to agree to a conversation being off the record in advance? And the laughable insistence that the reporter "fact check" by just...taking Halligan's word for it? (News to me that anyone in the Trump admin thinks anything at all has to be fact checked before someone says it, by the way.)

Just the blind leading the blind, all throughout the administration. These prosecutions Halligan is leading are going to be an absolute farce.

As with most things in the Trump Administration, it's simply incompetence on an incomprehensible scale.

But it is clearly what happens when loyalty to the president is the only metric used in hiring and when no one with any skills or future wants to be connected to this administration.

So Reuters gets the story, calls the Administration for comment, Admin runs out and gives the story to Fox to publish first and then call the Reuters story “old news”.

Discussions of potential targets have ranged beyond current and former government employees to include former President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, the source said.

A senior ODNI official disputed that account and said there was “no targeting of any individual person for retribution.”
