Agreed, but I would add that the rapid decline of traditional mainstream media and the rise of social media has just made this problem worse. If you have older Congressional Democrats who are asking younger colleagues "What is a podcast?" that's a huge problem for a political party in the year 2025 (or 2020 or 2024, really). And it's just going to get worse as we move forward. But yeah, their messaging has been a problem for a long while.Your post really drives home the point, but this is nothing new. Congressional Dems have been poor at messaging for many years.
Even savvy Dems like Obama were horrible at messaging.
I remember watching Obama at a press conference after saving the country from the Great Recession and putting us back on track for a sound economy.
Did he brag about his accomplishment ? No
Did he trash GWB for sinking the economy ? No
He made the mistake of saying we are doing better but people are still suffering and we need to do more to improve their lives.
Was the media takeaway from that press conference that Obama had rescued us from economic disaster and had put us on a track to restore a sound economy ( which he did ) ? No the media takeaway was Obama says he needs to do more to help American families.
