Nothing Trump does is going to increase DC tourism. The folks that follow Trump largely are not going on any trip to any city. Period. Ever. No matter the circumstance.

And anybody not in the Trump cult is intentionally staying away.
I sure as well wouldn’t want to go there right now.

I have family that just moved out of DC this past year after living there for 50 years and they’re breathing a sigh of relief that they’re no longer there while this shit is going on.

December 2024:

“Congress passed a new federal spending package bill that includes the full cost of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge and avoids a government shutdown.

The spending measure allots $100 billion for disaster relief, including the entire cost of a new Key Bridge.

… In November [2024], President Biden requested full funding for the Key Bridge rebuild to be included in a $100 billion disaster fund request he sent to Congress.

Biden also asked for funds for the Department of Transportation to help rebuild roads and bridges across 40 states, including in Maryland.

… He also approved a request for funding from Maryland Governor Wes Moore, allowing the state to receive an initial $60 million in emergency relief funding to recover debris from the Patapsco River. …”

Illinois should annouce a state=govt boycott (contracts, conventions etc) of any state semding national guard trooops to Chicago. And encourage Illinois citizens to forego travel and other business with those states/

Then start talking again about Medicaid cuts, tariff inflatiom,. tax cuts for wealthy and large coprs paid for by middle and working classes paying for tariffs, Trump screwing millions over student loan repayment etc

I’m hoping J.B. Pritzker orders the Illinois State Police to detain any out-of-state National Guard personnel and escort them to the state line. Ditto for any US Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force personnel ordered into Illinois by Trump.

This is an excellent idea. The second sentence is feasible. The first? Not so much. First, it would be impractical since it's very difficult to determine where products come from. I mean, conventions of course, but contracts and services can and usually are multi-state. Second, I have a feeling that a government boycott of one state by another would be illegal and would be stopped by the courts -- but I should note that I don't have much experience with the "dormant commerce clause" and what I know is from law school, meaning it's stale and possibly misremembered.

I think that gives them too much strategic cred. This asshole is just winging it.
You may well be right. Certainly, Trump is not a strategist. More of a "winger." But whether or not he conflates tactics with strategy (or whatever goes on in that tiny brain of his), everything he does is to serve only one goal: what's good for Trump.

There's a reason why we could reasonably assume in 2016 that his presidency would end with tanks, as I stated elsewhere at the time. While there were no tanks (then), it was a coup attempt nonetheless. The man has always planned for permanent power.

He's already rolled out talk about a third term. I think he's waiting to see how the midterms go but I suspect as we get closer to 2028, he will talk more about the third term. Probably how he was robbed the 2020 election via cheating and deserves another term. If he has a complicit Congress, these "trial runs" in liberal cities will have proven useful.

Intellectually, he's dumb as dirt but give this man credit: he has a true animal cunning, as bungling as he can often be. I argue he's the greatest conman in history. And the American people are dumb enough to give him what he needs.
