More National Guard Soldiers Head to D.C. and Prepare to Carry Weapons​

The shift comes after defense officials said the soldiers deployed to the capital wouldn’t be armed​



“… Defense officials had previously said the 800 National Guard soldiers deployed wouldn’t be armed, unlike many federal law-enforcement agents sent to the capital. They also weren’t to have weapons in their vehicles. “Weapons are available if needed but will remain in the armory,” the U.S. Army said in a press release Thursday.

… Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had indicated that Guard members should play an active role as well. ”We’re not going to have National Guards sitting there like this,” he said in a Fox News interview Monday, crossing his arms, “seeing a crime committed and not do something about it.” …”

No, you're the one who only sees immigration as "illegal immigration."

I do not acknowledge that the "border is secure" because that is not a good thing, not as you define it. You think the best thing to do for America is keep the brown people out. I do not think that. I do not think it is worth demonizing an entire ethnicity for speculative benefits at most. You've already seen how many citizens are being beaten or detained by ICE, and it's mostly Latinos because of your stereotyping and scapegoating.

The problem continues to be that you don't understand math. You never have. Thus you think that illegal immigrants make the country more dangerous when in reality they make the country safer. It's like you and timeouts. You get an errant idea in your head and, even though the falseness of that idea has been demonstrated to you, you carry on as if nothing happened.

I am objective about Trump. He's a dedicated fascist and he's creating a fascist state. Fact. I want nothing to do with that, because I know it will be horrible for the world. That's the lens through which I see him, and it's the right lens, and thus I don't think anything he does is good. It's not as if I am distorting myself much. I can't think of any policies, off the top of my head, from the last six months that aren't absolutely disgustingly horrible.

Interesting read from a former Washington Post reporter for those arguing that DC is such a crime-ridden hellhole that Republicans had to send in the troops. The post is referencing that fact that the GOP governors of three red states - Ohio, West Virginia, and South Carolina - have sent their National Guard troops to help Dear Leader in his "crackdown" of crime in DC.

From the post: "If there really is an emergency in D.C. that necessitates the use of the National Guard and other federal agencies, that would suggest that crime in D.C. is exceptional. (It would also suggest that crime is rising, which it isn’t; quite the opposite. But if you note that it’s falling, then you find yourself under attack for downplaying the existing crime, even when you aren’t. These are the traps that the pro-Trump bubble uses to keep reality at bay.) Data released by the FBI earlier this month, though, shows that a lot of other places — including places in those three states — had higher rates of violent crime and homicide than did D.C.

The FBI reported that fully 43 cities in those three states had higher rates of violent crime in 2024 than did D.C. More than 1.2 million people live in those cities, including more than 900,000 in Ohio alone. Yet that state’s National Guard is being deployed to D.C. to protect the capital’s 700,000-odd residents. Half a million Ohioans live in cities with higher homicide rates than D.C. Unfortunately for them, they won’t get to see National Guard troops on their streets — just on their TVs, standing around outside the Lincoln Memorial."

Again, the political rebuttal to this nonsense should be, "I don't want my taxes wasted on this". Pressure also needs to be applied to the state guards to "bring our boys home where they're actually needed." Hammer the tax angle and the "what are our people doing there?" question.
 
Along with pointing out just how unamerican this Trump publicity stunt is, I want Democrats to point out how weak Republicans are on gun control and the direct involvement firearms have on violent crime. If the pubs want to talk up how tough they are on crime..., make them defend their positions on gun control (lack of).

Focus on that and blunt their tough on crime bs.

They’ll respond with BS tales about good guys with guns stopping bad guys.

It’ll resonate with their base AND “Independents” and “moderates.”

Sometimes these guys just give the whole game away. This isn’t about doing anything other than getting pics and clips of the military on American streets. It’s a “staged production”. The reality show presidency.

Given the number of Fox News talking heads he's appointed to high government positions, it certainly fits.
