What?I’m not one to defend MAGA but there is something else that most of those states have in common that is likely the reason for their murder rates.

High proportion of African-American residents which drives the murder rate up.What?
Having a higher proportion of African-Americans results in higher murder rates?High proportion of African-American residents which drives the murder rate up.
Yes. Statistically, African-American males commit murder at a much higher rate than any other demographic in this country. Roughly 7% of the population accounts for nearly half of all homicides.Having a higher proportion of African-Americans results in more murders?
Could that be related to poverty rates rather than race?Yes. Statistically, African-American males commit murder at a much higher rate than any other demographic in this country. Roughly 7% of the population accounts for nearly half of all homicides.
I'm assuming the "something else" is that they have high black populations. The problem with that stereotype is that there is data showing that it's violence by Southern whites that has led to the South having a higher crime rate than the rest of the nation.I’m not one to defend MAGA but there is something else that most of those states have in common that is likely the reason for their murder rates.
So does that mean having a higher percentage of African-Americans in an area will cause a higher murder rate in that area? Or are there possibly other factors at play?Yes. It’s true but in the study link even in the South, where we have significantly more murders by “non-Hispanic whites (NHW)” than the rest of the country, the murder rate for “non-Hispanic blacks and African Americans (NHB)” of 18.7 per 100,000 was still substantially higher than among NHW of 7.6 per 100,000.From the conclusion of a study by the Southern Medical Journal: "The overall high homicide rates in the southern United States were attributable to relatively higher NHW (Non-Hispanic Whites) rates than those found in the rest of the country."

Thing is, this IS polling well for him. Not in DC but in places not at risk of this treatment.
Nah.Could that be related to poverty rates rather than race?
Generally speaking, higher rates of poverty = higher rates of unemployment, violence, drug abuse, lower educational attainment, and a whole bunch of other negative effects.
Given that black folks are historically among the most poverty stricken, it stands to reason that their communities would show a disproportionate impact.
Since we're spending more both absolutely and in terms of percentage on law enforcement and getting less from it, it makes sense for the MAGAts to increase hiring and spending. They're renowned for making the same dumbass mistake over and over again. It certainly wouldn't occur to them to consider that a new approach could be better.so, MAGA is now on board with raising taxes significantly in order to greatly increase police forces.
Good to know.
There are a number of factors at play. But it is disingenuous to blame the GOP for high murder rates that are carried out by a demographic that votes D 90%+ of the time. It would be like saying that Durham has a high crime rate because of Duke.Could that be related to poverty rates rather than race?

Shreveport, NOLA, Memphis, and St. Louis are solid blue islands in red states. That’s not the flex you think it is.It's half of Shreveport, NOLA, Memphis, St. Louis. Oh, they're in Red states!
