If/when Dems do gain control again, we can’t just tread lightly and hope to make amends. We’re seeing now that trying to make peace by forgiving Confederates who fought against the union only caused simmering resentment for over a century, which has now boiled to the surface.

I don’t know how to go about preventing another uprising without making examples of those who fought to disrupt our democracy and install an authoritarian regime.

I would counter that the 2nd term Obama Admin and the Biden Admin politicized DOJ, CIA and FBI. The Russian collusion hoax, the Hunter Biden laptop suppression, the perfect call to Z leading to the 1st Impeachment and the lawfare against Trump - coordinated with State AGs and DAs. The FBI went after grandmas and mothers praying outside abortion clinics, parents protesting school boards for a trans attack and conservative, Latin Catholics.

Exactly. What it all comes down to.is racism and bigotry. These people want the US to be like it was before the 1960s. They want it to be only for straight white Christian nationalists. And then you have others who are just rich and greedy and don't care what happens as long as they get richer. You can't reason and compromise with these racists and bigots. There is no playing nice with them.
