This is how they square the circle. MAGA is generally opposed to foreign wars. No issue bombing Iran or blowing up speedboats in the Gulf of Mexico, but no support for our traditional allies like Ukraine.

MAGA is very excited, though, about waging war on blue Americans.

Hence, the Department of War.

For a guy who is ALWAYS wrong about EVERYTHING, you sure do have a cheery demeanor.

The president of the United States should never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever even joke about unleashing "the department of war" on an American city -- or for that matter, anywhere else.

I agree. There are a LOT of things Trump shouldn't say or do, but he's not declaring war on America.

"The president’s threats are beneath the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our Constitution, we must defend our democracy from this authoritarianism by protecting each other and protecting Chicago from Donald Trump," Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson wrote.

When NBC News White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor asked Trump outside the White House before he set off to the U.S. Open whether he was trying to "go to war with Chicago," Trump gave a fiery response.

"When you say that, darling, that’s fake news," Trump said.

Alcindor attempted to respond, but Trump told her to listen.

"Be quiet, listen! You don’t listen! You never listen. That’s why you’re second-rate. We’re not going to war. We’re gonna clean up our cities. We’re gonna clean them up, so they don’t kill five people every weekend," he said. "That’s not war, that’s common sense."
