Straight White Christians made the modern, (liberal) western society and founded this liberal Democracy. Go to Gaza or Iran if you disagree.
Huh?

You are pretty ignorant about our founding fathers. They may have been straight and white, but very few of them were Christian -- at least not in the sense you are using the term in response to a post about Christian Nationalists.

The founders were what you would call "secularlists" -- people who were inspired by the Enlightenment and strongly believed in man's ability to understand the universe through rational materialism. To the extent they were religious at all, most were Deists -- believing in an absentee-landlord God.

Think that was actually someone else who said he was like an abuser, but I definitely said that his kids probably don’t talk to him and I stand by it. I can’t imagine talking to any of my family members who’d callously wish loss of livelihood upon people for no reason other than “own the libs” politics.
Wrong. Wow, y'all go personal hard and fast. I have 2 highly educated and successful adult children who talk to me every week (they live out of state) thank you very much. I don't "abuse" anyone and have been happily married for decades. You think anyone who disagrees with you politically has to be some kind of ogre or abuser.

Thinking the federal budget or the federal workforce is bloated and needs trimming is only a controversial belief on this Board.

I've been looking around and I have yet to find a credible source that thinks Week 1.5 of Trump 2.0 has been anything less than an absolute clusterfuck. I suspect anyone who thinks otherwise is in a media bubble that is not shared by 99.5% of Planet Earth.

Quite literally if you could comprehend what you are reading, you would see that I never said you were abusive. That was someone else. I did say that your children probably don’t talk to you. Whatever. I don’t care if they do or if they don’t.

I certainly don’t think that people who disagree with me politically are ogres. I think that people who gleefully celebrate the prospect of other people losing their jobs, or who tell American citizens to go to Iran or Gaza, are ogres. You aren’t an ogre because we have differing political beliefs. You’re an ogre because we have vastly different standards for how we treat other people who aren’t like us and how we want the freaking government to treat other people who aren’t like us.

It's one thing to think the federal workforce is larger than it needs to be in some areas, or to think there are some things government does that it doesn't necessarily need to do. We likely don't agree on those items, but it isn't "controversial." it is another thing entirely to forego all the procedures in place for changing laws and creating and un-creating federal agencies and departments to instead pursue a ham-fisted effort to bully federal employees out of government service by illegally firing them, offering them BS "severance" packages, and generally just saying you're going to make their job a living hell.

Republicans control both houses of Congress! They don't need to do everything via unconstitutional and overreaching executive action! if you think your philosophy of downsizing the government is right, the people's elected representatives can draft, debate, and pass laws about it. But what's happening right now is simply authoritarian executive power grabs. An attempt to replace apolitical career government employees with a return to 1800s style partisan patronage. And not only do you not condemn that, you're cheering it. Just because the authoritarianism happens to be being wielded in service of goals you support.

We're now 10 days in. Has there ever been a worse first ten days for any president in history? Trump 1.0 was astonishingly bad, but not nearly as bad as this one. Even William Henry Harrison made it for a month before succumbing to pneumonia. I truly think we may be seeing the worst start to a presidential administration in the history of the republic.

Yet, despite the list of stuff above, Trump has had his highest approval rating ever through his first several days in office. For now, a lot of people like it. We will see if they start getting buyer’s remorse but he is riding high.

Wait, what? Where are you seeing this? 538 has him at 47% approval, which is the worst ever 10 days in.

It's not about political disagreement. It's just that the way you talk and your responses remind me so clearly of my father. That's proof of nothing; if I were to file an action with that as a basis, I'd be laughed out of court. But it's an observation. Maybe try to be less toxic type A old man and you won't get people wondering about these things.

I disagree. Ramrouser is EXTREMELY more educated than most MAGAs. I mean, Mercer, but it's still a graduate program. Ram's statements on this board illustrate that MAGA is not constrained by level of education. You can be educated but still be a catastrophically idiotic dumbass when it comes to politics. Even people in the higher echelons of education can show their asses to the world on the regular.
  • I was imprecise in my use of “typical;” I wasn’t talking about education or professional levels. I was talking about being typical in his support for Trump
  • I agree that Ramrouser is much more highly credentialed than most MAGAts and most Americans; I doubt Ramrouser is much more “educated” than most Americans. Based on his posts, Ramrouser is NOT highly educated or even mildly educated.
  • Let’s not confuse credentials with how educated people are.

Rasmussen had him as high as 56%, down to 52% yesterday.

Trump starts second term with higher approval than in 2017, poll shows

A Quinnipiac University poll put Trump 10 points ahead of his approval at the start of his first term.

Days into his second administration, 46 percent of voters approve of the job Trump is doing, a 10 point bump from the university’s January 2017 poll where he had a 36 percent approval. The president’s disapproval rating sits at 43 percent and 11 percent of voters did not give an opinion.

For Trump, historically, that is stellar.

Has downsizing ever actually happened like this with any party in control, to any meaningful degree?

No, his ratings have dipped.
Reuters has him down to 45… and I think it will gol lowere before it goes back up. At this rate anyway.

It won't be for long.
