Trump’s Health Thread

Here's the thing, I am old enough so that I am routinely administered cognitive tests by physicians examining me. Not because of how I am acting, but merely (I desperately hope) because of how old I am. I also regularly take the tests on the "Elevate" app. So far, I am good. The only one I have any problem with are the ones that require I quickly memorize a long string of text. I couldn't do that when I was in elementary school. I am, to this day, embarrassed at how long it took me and how long I had to work to memorize: The Gettysburg Address, the Preamble to the Constitution, Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech, etc. But now, it gives me an excuse to blow off the memorization parts of cognitive tests because I can "claim" I was never good at it and certainly haven't improved as I have aged.

I am 71 and I had to beg my physician to administer a cognitive test. He said they only give the test if there is evidence of cognitive decline. My sisters and I all decided we should have baseline cognitive tests after my mother died with dementia so we would have a basis of comparison should issues develop.

My PCP in Cleveland refused to administer the test. I'm guessing they need affirmative reason to administer the test for insurance to cover it. My PCP in Charlotte relented and used the reason that I was a former smoker with evidence of plaque in my abdominal aorta so Medicare would pay.

Anyway, I got 100% of the correct answers. He said that is very unusual, but mostly because he only gives the test to people exhibiting symptoms of cognitive decline and I had none so he expected me to ace it.

Did he administer the 30 question MoCa cognitive exam ?

I don't know that he told me the name of the test. 30 questions sounds about right, it took 15-20 minutes total. There were strings of words to repeat, dots that had to be connected to make a specific shape, identifying the differences in similar objects, etc. It wasn't administered by a psychologist, just my PCP in his office.
