TV Streaming series to talk about.

I never understand people rejecting a narrative work because of unlikeable characters.
I do. You’re asking the viewer to invest hours upon hours of time spent with these people, in a landscape of never ending viewing options. If they’re finding the characters to ALL be unpleasant people whom they don’t want to spend their time on, then it’s a hard sell to get viewers to buy in.

I get it for sure, but for me the unpleasantness gave way to enjoying the rhythm and style of the show, and the characters grow on you in small ways despite yourself.

I started watching the show before season 2 came out based on hearing some very positive things from people whose opinions I respect. After the first two episodes, I was ready to bail. I thought it was miserable. But for some reason I kept watching. By the fourth episode, I got it and appreciated it. It was a dark comedy and I enjoyed the humor. I actually thought it was hilarious and often laughed out loud. That kept me coming back.

It’s also a show I could not have taken any more of than what we got. When it ended, I was ready for it to end. There’s only so much time with those people you can handle. And I’m not sure I’d be interested in watching it again. It’s like one of those experiences you can appreciate without ever wanting to revisit.

My one beef with the show was the amount of times they said “fuck off.” Do people really say “fuck off” that much? My wife and I would say “drink” every time it was said on the show. Thankfully we didn’t actually drink every time it was said.

I felt that way about Shameless. All of the characters got on my nerve for one reason or another. I stopped watching when they had an episode where a toddler got into some coke that one of the characters left around.

While they did all have their issues and in many ways are the same as @an0maly described the characters in succession, there are times when they are more likable, though overall they are not continually likable.

I think with this show I could also relate more with the struggles and the plight of the characters, with succession I didn't have any relation to a bunch of rich spoiled people.

But shameless did get to a point where it was just unwatchable. It's like the writers were actively trying to see how bad they could make the story lines.

Plus, some of the characters were so horrid that you wanted them to get hit by a train when they were first introduced.

I liked all the Shameless characters except for Fiona’s boyfriends. They all seemed to get on my nerves.

I just finished a rewatch of Succession. Incredible show. I’m starting a rewatch of Shogun. I am also interspersing episodes from season two of Andor, which I haven’t seen, and season two of Severance, which I haven’t seen.

I am uhhh all over the map for some reason.
S2 of Andor was really good.

I love that show. I love it that it has traditional Star Wars elements but in a more dark drama.

I haven't kept up with the entire thread, and I'm sure this one has been discussed. I started watching Fleabag (Prime) recently. A very different, but also very funny show. More for the chicks, but still damn funny.

On another note, I wish people would put the network when mentioning shows. Nobody has all of them, or even most of them, unless a super TV junky.

The wife and I enjoyed Fleabag as well. Feels a lot like Nobody Wants This is an American remake of Fleabag with a rabbinical twist . Fleabag was better, btw.

Really enjoying the series I'm watching now, Inspector George Gently...first seasons on PBS Masterpiece Mystery, latter ones on Prime/Acorn.

Really solid stuff, & highly recommended for anyone who likes cop/crime/detective shows.

I started watching "The Last Frontier".

It was interesting at first, but has steadily gotten worse and worse.

I recently finished season 1 of The Pitt. Never having watched ER or any medical procedural drama, it made for an interesting watch. I can be a little squeamish on some of these types of things, but only in one scene out of the 15 hour season did they give me too much.

Quite a shift they had on that particular day.

Yes, a variety of people (many in the medical profession) have noted that The Pitt has been really the first truthful depiction of what an emergency room in America is really like. When you move out and up a level, it is also realistic about the problems with American medicine and all the related social disparities that are bound up in this. I was frustrated though that it won Best Drama over Severance, which I think is a far more sophisticated, philosophical and original creation for television.

I was doubting why we needed a season 2 of The Pitt, but so far I like it.

Also enjoying Fallout, which is a very trivial series compared to other mentioned, but I had great fun years ago with the massive open world video games of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. The show captures the same 1950's Cold War alternate universe the games invented, a comical "Atomic Cafe" setting, and uses the same old-fashioned settings and music, plus the silly violence of the games. I am surprised and pleased that so many people who never played the games are enjoying the series.

Just watched the first episode of the newest show from the Game of Thrones universe - A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Seems to be off to a good start and apparently stays very true to the source material. Based on the recurring theme of bodily functions, I think this is going, to be a lighter, if not cruder, look at Westeros and the realm.
