Not clear from the article but that would certainly hit a lot of people — a stealth tax increase on the working and middle class if they have to include the employer contribution to health care premiums and/or HSAs as taxable income.

Edit to add that currently healthcare premiums are not considered fringe benefits by the IRS.
If it's not healthcare benefits, what's going to be the next biggest target? Frequent flyer miles? Transit passes? Home internet for home offices? I can't imagine there's enough there to move the needle on the budget.

GOP Considers Taxing ‘Fringe Benefits’ To Address Federal Deficit

"In an effort to offset revenue losses from President Donald Trump’s tax cuts, House Republicans are reportedly considering taxing fringe benefits. Grant Thornton’s Washington National Tax Office tax principal Jeff Martin said, “If enacted, workers would likely have to pay income tax on the fair market value of the fringe benefits they are getting from their employer.” Martin noted, “Administering this would be very difficult if they were to go forward with it.”

The proposals, still in early stages, aim to address the $36 trillion federal deficit while expanding 2017 tax cuts and fulfilling campaign promises. Taxing fringe benefits would require employees to pay income tax on their fair market value, reducing their overall worth. ..."

Taxing the value of your parking space (an example from the linked article) will irritate the hell out of a lot of people ...
I pay $750 a year for parking at work. I want a deduction!

Listen, let them cut whatever the fuck they want. The Democrats are like a NBA fringe playoff team, not good enough to win, not bad enough to get a top pick so that they can compete. You need to let the GOP implode, even if it is painful for a lot of people. The only way through the current mess is hitting the rock bottom of GOP austerity.

Since I noted that their absence might make things easier for Pubs to clear their procedural budget vote tonight, here is an update that two of the three Dems who have been missing votes for legit health reasons showed up for a losing effort voting against the GOP budget …

Sounds like Rep Raúl Grijalva (Ariz.), a 77-year-old who has been getting treated for lung cancer and hasn’t been in DC much since the first days of this Congress, could not make it.

It's hard to believe Congress will pass the type of Medicaid cuts needed to satisfy the budget resolution.

By their own (sketchy) accounting the GOP plan that passed last night would add nearly $20 Trillion to the National Debt over the next decade.

Any Trumplicans ever going to comment on all this DOGE slashing spending just so that billionaires can get another unneeded tax cuts AND the deficit increases?
This is what you voted for?
Not a Trump voter, but I do appreciate some of the spending cuts. I do think there is bloat in some of the USAID grants that can be pared down, and I think some of the research grants had some problems with their overhead spending formula. I wish we would see them going after defense bureaucracy instead of medicaid.

I don't appreciate it going to the tax cuts although our family did very well with the last round, especially getting rid of AMT. My kids and future grandkids didn't do so great.

BUT THE DEFICIT!!!!!!!!!!

I’m particularly interested in the analysis of resident doge apologist, ramzen. Their astute analysis/sanewashing of doge is that government is “INEFFICIENT AND CORRUPT! WHY DO YOU OPPOSE EFFICIENCY!” Yet, now their team has passed one of the largest deficit exploding budgets in US history, and doge proclamations are continually proven false - what say you?

Will you ever admit doge is a scam? You certainly don’t have to proclaim wrongheadedness, that’s simply not a maga/bosider trait, but will you do a decency and stop chirping the musk, Rufo, fox, oan, o’keefe, posobiac, etc. agitprop and mid/dis? Hell, you don’t even have to call this what it bare nakedly is, an unprecedented wealth transfer to hundred-millionaires and above, just stop trying to convince us to consume the shit your ingesting, bc regardless of what musk is telling you, it’s not a ribeye.

Fwiw, I don’t think a single one of you care a lick about deficits, it was always a culture war cudgel, and if this shit doesn’t lay that bare I don’t know what non-violent action could.
